The Costa Blanca tourist capital plans to combine urban development with sustainable growth
Benidorm is poised to undergo a major transformation with the approval of its largest urban plan to date. The partial Ensanche Levante plan, which covers an area of 575,371 square metres, will give way to the construction of 20 hotels, more than 2,300 homes and three shopping centres in the Armanello district.
The project, which has been in the works for years, has finally received the green light from the plenary session, allowing developers to move forward with their plans.
The ambitious project promises to revolutionise the landscape of Benidorm, transforming a previously neglected and degraded area into a thriving hub of activity. The plan includes the construction of 1,564 tourist homes and 780 residential apartments, catering to the growing demand for accommodation in the popular tourist destination.
Additionally, the project allocates 65% of the land for public facilities and green areas, ensuring that the development is both sustainable and environmentally conscious.
To this end, one of the key features of the plan is the creation of a large park, which will serve as a green lung for the area. The park will feature tree-lined spaces, pedestrian and bicycle paths and recreational areas for sports and outdoor activities. The initiative also includes provisions for a bike lane and large pedestrian spaces, further enhancing the area's appeal to residents and visitors alike.
According to Councillor for Urban Planning Lourdes Caselles, the plan represents a continuity of the Benidorm model, which emphasises sustainable development and vertical construction. In this way, the apartment blocks will all be built to a minimum of 20 stories, maximising the space available.
While the development has its detractors, on the whole the project has been praised for its commitment to sustainability and its ability to breathe new life into a long-neglected area. The development of the 57 hectares of land will not only provide much-needed accommodation and amenities for tourists and residents but also help to revitalise the local economy.
