ARCHIVED - Benidorm will stage its patron saint fiestas with capacity restrictions and Covid passport
Benidorm's patron saint festivities will take place in the Marina Baixa town in Alicante province from November 13 to 17
Benidorm Town Council and the Festivals Commission has confirmed this year's annual Festes Majors Patronals (patron saint fiestas) will go ahead, but with capacity restrictions at musical and church performances, and members of the public must produce a Covid certificate to gain entry to certain events.
There will also be changes to locations and routes of certain events and processions.
President of the Festivals Commission, Batiste Rostoll, explained that "around 80% of the acts will be held" and always "in accordance with the regulations, avoiding crowds, maintaining a safe distance and the use of a mask."
As always, the fair will be located in its usual location in Calle Emilio Ortuño from Friday evening, November 12 to Sunday November 21.
The line-up is as follows:
- Saturday November 13, 8.30am: Aerial bombardment display (lots of loud bangs) with controlled access to San Jaime Church – this means only Benidorm residents will be allowed inside the church.
- Saturday November 13, 9.30am: Musical performance at the Julio Iglesias Auditorium. Entry will only be allowed with a Covid certificate, which can be downloaded and stored on any mobile device via this link. This concert will be followed by a march through the town for the Offering of Flowers which will depart from Avenida Europa through Avenida del Mediterráneo, Plaza de la Hispanidad, Calle Gambo, Martínez Alejos and Calle Alameda.
- Sunday November 14, 1am: Sound, lighting and pyrotechnics show at Mercasa municipal market.
- Sunday November 14, 8.30am: Loud fireworks display.
- Sunday November 14, 11.30am: Mass in honour of the Mare de Déu del Sofratge (Virgon of Suffrage) in the Plaza de SSMM Los Reyes de España with a maximum capacity of 500 people seated. Those following the ceremony will have to stand respecting social distancing measures.
- Sunday November 14, 2pm: Las Fallas mascletás (fireworks) in Avenida Jaime I. Again mask wearing and social distancing is mandatory.
- Sunday November 14, 7pm: Procession and flower offering setting off from Plaza de Sant Jaume.
- Sunday November 14, midnight: Concert in the Julio Iglesias Auditorium, for which a Covid certificate will be required.
- Monday November 15, 8.30am: Loud fireworks display.
- Monday November 15, 11.30am: Open air mass in honour of San Jaime in the Plaza de SSMM Los Reyes de España (capacity restrictions will be in place).
- Monday November 15, 7pm: Festive procession starting in Plaza San Jaime and ending in Calle Alameda.
- Monday November 15, midnight: Concert in the Julio Iglesias Auditorium. A Covid certificate will be required.
- Tuesday November 16, 8.30am: Aerial bombing display at San Jaime Church.
- Tuesday November 16, 10.30am: Requiem mass in San Jaime Church and at Santa Ana Church with capacity restrictions and compulsory mask wearing.
- Tuesday November 16, 5pm: Children's show in the Julio Iglesias Auditorium and, as during all the festivities, a Covid certificate will be required.
- Wednesday November 17, all morning: Final day of celebrations in the Town Hall square.
- Wednesday November 17, 7pm: Procession of floats, the route has still to be confirmed and is dependent on the number of floats taking part. This will be followed by fireworks in Elche Park.
