Bright, sunny and dry weekend ahead: Spain weather forecast Feb 2-5
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
The temperatures will rise in the south of Spain over the weekend but continue to drop in the north
An anticyclone that has been hovering over Spain in recent days has resulted in vastly varying temperatures and while inland areas will be hard hit by frost on Thursday February 2, the temperatures in general are on the rise.
Anticyclonic weather at this time of year generally means bright and sunny days, cold dawns and the formation of morning mists, but the high pressure also means that it’s hard for rain to form, so the coming weekend is likely to be dry and pleasant in most areas, if still a little chilly.
Friday February 3
Friday will dawn cloudy in the north and east but this will pass during the day to give way to largely clear skies in most of Spain and the Balearic Islands. The Canary Islands, on the other hand, is in for a mostly overcast day with some scattered showers in the western islands.
Daytime temperatures will continue to rise inland but there’s little change expected in the rest of the country, with highs of 16-18ºC forecast in Alicante and Murcia.
Mostly settled with a variable but light easterly breeze.
Yellow alert for low temperatures: Aragon, Balearic Islands, Castilla y Leon, Castilla-La Mancha and Catalonia.
Saturday February 4
Slightly overcast or clear on Saturday with some scattered showers forecast along the Basque coast. The Canary Islands are in store for another cloudy day with a slight chance of light rain in the afternoon.
Morning mists are likely in inland Galicia, the Duero valley and the upper Ebro.
After a relatively chilly couple of days the mercury will begin to rise in the southeast of the country, hitting a balmy 22ºC in Murcia, but the temperatures will drop again in the north.
Frosts will strike a good portion of inland Spain on Saturday, extending to parts of Mallorca and high ground in the Canary Islands.
Strong winds in the north but easterly light breezes in the rest of the country.
Yellow alert for low temperatures: Balearic Islands and Castilla y Leon.
Yellow alert for adverse sea conditions: Catalonia.
Sunday February 5
The stable weather will continue across Spain with the exception of the extreme north, which will be cloudy with probable showers. Frosts will continue in large areas of the interior of the country, more intense in mountain areas.
The thermometers will continue to rise in the south and dip in the north, with little change expected on the islands. Sunday night should also be a little warmer in most places than previous days.
There are currently no weather warnings in place for Sunday.
