Auditorio Parque Torres, Cartagena

This is an open air auditorium, used in the summer for festivals such as the Mar de Músicas and also as part of the Romans and Carthaginians fiestas at the end of September.

It´s built into the side of the hill and sits just above the Roman Theatre and below the Castillo de la Concepción.

The auditorium is a solid concrete structure, so the seats are solid concrete, and those in the know take a cushion to make the evening a softer experience altogether.

The greatest difficulty for those attending events in this auditorium is access. From whichever direction this venue is approached, hills must be climbed, or arrangements made for a car to drop off passengers whilst the driver goes and parks up, as there is no parking anywhere near the auditorium itself.

The Google map link, B, shows the castle, but look to the left of the castle, and you can see the auditorium nestled next to the Roman Theatre.

 There are 3 ways up :

1.Via the steep steps which lead up from the side of the Old Cathedral at the foot of the Roman Theatre Museum. This leads up from the end of Calle Jara, up the side of the Roman Theatre.

Be warned, sometimes the gates are closed, in which case it´s necessary to walk back down around the front of the Roman Theatre Museum and along the top of the Muralla del Mar, the big wall which confronts visitors to the port and up the steps at the far end of that. This adds a good ten minutes onto the walk, so don´t get caught out and leave plenty of time.

2. From the foot of Calle Gisbert.

The road which leads up to the Parque Torres is accessed via Calle Gisbert. It´s possible to drive up here and drop passengers off at the top, but the driver still has to go and park and walk back.

Pedestrians can either walk up the road itself, or at the foot of Calle Gisbert are some steps which cut out the first zig zag of the road. These lead from the level of the top of the Muralla del Mar.

This route is always open, but again is a good walk uphill.

3. Via the Panoramic lift up from Calle Gisbert. This takes visitors up to the top of the hill and they can then walk down via the Parque Torres. However this is not usually open at night, as it closes when it gets dark. Sometimes it does open, so it´s always worth checking with the tourist office just in case ( 968 506 483 )as it´s the easiest way to get to this venue.

Nearest Parking.

There are two possibilities, but both involve a reasonable walk

1. Park in the underground car park of the Muelle Alfonso XII and walk up the steps which are halfway along the Muralla del Mar. Climb up the steps, along the top of the wall and then up to the auditorium at the far end. A good 10 minute walk, but this is the safest option for those nervous about leaving their vehicles in open places.

2. Use one of the 2 options recommended for Camper van drivers, ie by the Extranjeria and the bottom of the Muralla del Mar or by the old  Plaza de Toros. However, be warned, these are favourite corners at night-time for ladies of the night, and whilst personally we have never felt threatened or intimidated in any way, some more nervous drivers may be uncomfortable with parking in an unmonitored area.
