The festive season is in full swing in the Mar Menor with a calendar packed with music, parades and more
Cartagena has prepared more than 300 special activities to celebrate Christmas which will officially begin on Tuesday December 5 with the inauguration of the municipal Nativity Scene at 6.30pm in the Plaza San Francisco and the switching on of the lights in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento.
"We want the people of Cartagena to have Christmas with their families and loved ones, but for their city be the backdrop of your memories" said the mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo.
As well as the traditional celebrations, this year’s programme is packed full of new additions such as the Christmas village in the Parque de los Juncos and events at the Port and in the Plaza Cartagenas.
There’s plenty for the little ones to do this festive season, with workshops running between 5 and 7pm at CandyLand in Parque de los Juncos, while the Plaza de España will be transformed into a musical space between December 22 and January 3 with 24 performances in all.
A Christmas photo booth has been set up in the Alameda de San Antón and the best snap uploaded to social media will win a special prize from El Corte Ingles, and the Port Authority has organised a unique Christmas market complete with concerts and kids’ activities on December 15.
No fewer than nine musical performances are scheduled in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento over the holidays.
For lovers of nativity scenes, a tour through Las 600, El Algar, La Aparecida, La Palma, Perín, Galifa, Santa Lucía, El Albujón and the parish of San Diego has been arranged on December 23.
Just like last year, the famous Three Kings Parade on January 5 will be broadcast live on TV throughout the Region of Murcia. The procession will begin at the Port and depart from the Alameda de San Anton.
And because Christmas is all about giving, Onda Cero will once again hold its charity collection which last year donated 3,500 toys and gifts to 1,500 vulnerable children.
