Casa de la Cultura, Bullas
Casa de la Cultura, Bullas houses the library, municipal archive, auditorio and offices
The Casa de la Cultura is housed inside one of the buildings which dominate the Plaza de España in Bullas, the Casa Melgares. This distinctive blue and white building was built around 1925 by Don Pedro Melgares and was restored for public use by the Town hall in 1994.
The building contains an eclectic combination of styles, as while the façade shows clear Modernist and Art Deco tendencies, and is typical of the buildings being constructed in other locations within Murcia at this time, the interior draws its inspiration from neo-Muslim art.
The features combine decorative elements inspired by the Alhambra in Granada, using decorative details for internal arches, wrought iron work, tiles, woodwork and the decorative stairway.
Today the building houses the Public library, an auditorium and several offices.
The Public Library
The library has around 7000 volumes, and 6000 users, and is housed in the Casa de Cultura, alongside the municipal archive, which houses documentation datuing back to 1695.
