Changeable and unsettled weather over the coming days: Spain forecast March 4-7
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
The week will begin and end with rain in much of Spain, with sunny spells in between
Weather outlook on Monday March 4
The beginning of March is living up to its unpredictable reputation. A couple of warm and bright days in the middle of this coming week will be bookended by Atlantic fronts, which will bring overcast skies and a good chance of some stormy showers to much of Spain.
Strong gales felled trees and caused countless accidents over the weekend, and these winds are set to continue until the middle of the week, although with far less intensity. Nevertheless, several regions remain on alert for choppy seas and parts of northern and northeastern Spain have been issued with weather warnings for possible avalanches.
Monday March 4
An Atlantic front will move across the country from west to east, bringing clouds and rain to most of Spain. Galicia will experience the heaviest showers, particularly in the western municipalities, but the rain will be generally weak everywhere else and it’s not expected to reach the Mediterranean at all.
Temperatures will rise throughout Spain, with the largest increases expected inland.
Yellow weather alert for low temperatures and/or avalanches: Aragón, Catalonia, Navarra.
Tuesday March 5
A change in weather is expected on Tuesday as an anticyclone takes hold. While cloudy skies will still prevail in the northern extremes of the country, the rest of Spain can expect clearer skies. Weak rainfall may occur in the Cantabrian Sea, the Pyrenees and eastern Catalonia.
Temperatures will decrease in some parts, such as the north of the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands and the interior southeast of Spain, while minimum temperatures will increase in the Mediterranean and northeast areas.
Another change in weather is forecast, with a provisional anticyclonic situation taking hold. Skies will be mostly clear, although an approaching Atlantic front will bring increased cloud cover to large parts of the Atlantic and Cantabrian coasts.
Temperatures will rise across Spain, although the mercury will dip slightly in the Mediterranean area and eastern Canary Islands.
No weather warnings have been issued for Wednesday.
Thursday March 7
Low pressure systems are expected to approach the west of the country, resulting in cloudy or overcast skies. Rain is forecast in most of the west of Spain but it’s unlikely to spread any further.
Daytime temperatures will decrease in the west, on the Mediterranean coast and in the Balearic Islands, while rising slightly in central Spain.
No weather warnings have yet been issued for Thursday
