ARCHIVED - Christmas in Alicante: bumper guide to festive activities
A guide to what's going on and where this Christmas and New Year in Alicante
A fun-packed bumper program of festive events, activities, carol singing, markets, nativity scenes and more has been put together by Alicante Council this Christmas.
The following guide details what's going on and where and how to get that all important letter to Father Christmas.
Christmas Fair in Rabasa
As usual, the Christmas Fair will take place at Rabasa fairground and is scheduled to open on Friday December 3.
Christmas Craft Market
This traditional flea market will be held in the Paseo de Federico Soto from Wednesday December 1 to January 6, from 10am to 3pm and 5pm to 11pm.
Santa's grotto and giant slide
The 'Casa de San Nicolás' will be located in Plaza Séneca from Thursday December 2 to December 24. An appointment must be made in advance via Alicante City Council's website.
Children's attractions
The Plaza Séneca will also host a series of children's attractions from December 2 to January 20, including a giant slide, which in previous years has been located in the Montañeta.
Ice rink and attractions
A North Pole scene, zip line, ball pit, ice rink and inflatables are some of the attractions and activities in the Plaza de Toros from December 4.
The Bethlehem Nativity Scene
From Saturday December 4, El Portalet de Belén will be on display at the Palacio El Portalet until January 6.
At the same time, 'The Legend of Saint Nicholas' will be projected on the façade of the Cathedral of Saint Nicholas, depicting his departure from Alicante to take toys to children across Europe.
Christmas Carol Concert
The traditional concert by the Federació de Fogueres (Federation of Bonfires) will take place on December 11 (7pm to 9pm) and December 12 (12pm to 2pm and 6pm to 9pm) in Plaza del Ayuntamiento.
Campoamor Street Market
On December 18 and 19, the Christmas market will be held on Paseo de Campoamor from 11am to 9 pm. There will be a vintage market, musical performances, workshops and children's entertainment.
Letter to the Three Kings
The Royal Postmen will be waiting in the kings' camp in Plaza de Gabriel Miró to collect children's letters from Sunday December 26 to January 4.
An online appointment service will be available on the Town Hall website from December 20.
Children's New Year's Eve party
On Friday December 31, little ones and their guardians are invited to a New Year's Eve party with a Children's Cotillion in Plaza del Ayuntamiento from 11am to 1pm.
From 11pm until 4am, there will be New Year's Eve party for the adults, with live music from the Vendetta Project orchestra.
Fireworks on Cocó Beach
On January 1 from 8pm onwards, a fireworks display will be set off from the Playa del Cocó.
Party prior to the Three Kings procession
Before the official departure of the Three Kings in their traditional procession, a children's show will take place in the Bullring from 5pm to 6pm. Reservations must be made on the Town Hall website in advance.
Three Kings procession
The procession will leave the Alicante Provincial Palace in Avenida de la Estación at 6pm on Tuesday January 4, and make its way to Plaza del Ayuntamiento
A second, extended route is planned for Wednesday January 5, depending on the evolution of the pandemic. The parade, in principle, will start at Avenida de la Estación at 7pm and head to Plaza del Ayuntamiento, where gifts will be given out.
The Three Kings will also visit rural areas, such as Verdegás and La Cañada.
