Cool start gives way to scorching temperatures: Murcia weather forecast Aug 7-10
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
Many parts of the Region of Murcia are on alert for temperatures in excess of 40ºC by mid-week
After a stifling weekend, the week will get off to a relatively cool start in the Region of Murcia, with temperatures staying in the comfortable low to mid 30s. However, the third heatwave of the year is winging its way towards Spain and many parts of the Region can expect the temperatures to ramp up by an incredible 10ºC by Wednesday.
Monday August 7
Monday will be slightly cloudy or clear throughout the day, although the early morning and late evening will likely be overcast. Nighttime temperatures are on the rise, particularly along the coast and Campo de Cartagena while the mercury will take an overall dip at the height of the day. Light easterly winds will grow in strength in the afternoon and feel more intense along the coast.
Minimum and maximum temperatures on Monday
Caravaca de la Cruz: 16ºC to 33ºC
Cartagena: 25ºC to 30ºC
Lorca: 25ºC to 34ºC
Murcia: 24ºC to 33ºC
Yecla: 19ºC to 31ºC
Tuesday August 8
The daytime temperatures will begin their upswing on Tuesday and this increase will be much more noticeable inland, where the day will get off to a rather overcast and misty start. The day should be mostly clear aside from that with a light easterly wind.
Minimum and maximum temperatures on Tuesday
Caravaca de la Cruz: 15ºC to 36ºC
Cartagena: 24ºC to 31ºC
Lorca: 20ºC to 36ºC
Murcia: 22ºC to 35ºC
Yecla: 16ºC to 33ºC
Wednesday August 9
The mercury will really ramp up on Wednesday and the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has placed most of the Region on yellow alert for high temperatures that could exceed 40ºC. Light breezes will bring little relief on what will be a largely sunny day with some intervals of high clouds. Dry storms are a strong possibility in inland mountainous areas.
Minimum and maximum temperatures on Wednesday
Caravaca de la Cruz: 20ºC to 41ºC
Cartagena: 24ºC to 33ºC
Lorca: 23ºC to 41ºC
Murcia: 22ºC to 39ºC

Thursday August 10
The weather will remain stable on Thursday but the daytime temperatures will continue to rise, hitting a sweltering 45ºC in Lorca and Murcia, although no heat warnings have yet been issued. It will be a slightly cloudy day across the board, more overcast inland.
