The worst of the storms will subside by the weekend but the temperatures will drop in most of Spain

Storm Denise brought record gusts of wind this past week and although the worst is beginning to subside, the passage of successive Atlantic fronts will result in fairly unsettled conditions over the weekend.

A front will begin moving towards the east of Spain through the Mediterranean on Friday November 25, while an anticyclone affects the country from the west. This will create cloudy skies and heavy rainfall in the Cantabrian area in the morning, while the storms are likely to effect Catalonia, Mallorca and Menorca in the afternoon.

The rest of the country will begin overcast and damp but the rainfall will ease off later in the day.

Daytime temperatures will tend to drop almost across the board, although they could rise slightly in the Canary Islands and in the extreme south.

The winds, coming from the west and northwest, will be generally weak along the Atlantic coast but more intense in the rest of the country.

Six communities are on orange alert for storms and rough sea condition: Asturias, the Balearic Islands, Cantabria, Catalonia, Galicia and the Basque Country.

The situation will improve considerably by Saturday November 26 when dry and stable weather is forecast in almost the entire country. Cloudy skies with the possibility of some light rain is expected in western Galicia and although the day will start out overcast in the Balearic Islands, it will clear by the afternoon.

Daytime temperatures will rise in the Canary Islands and in central Spain but will likely drop by a couple of degrees along the Mediterranean coast and in the Balearic Islands. The night will also be considerably cooler in most of the country, with the sharpest dip predicted in the south and east of the country.

Strong winds from the southwest on the Galician coast and cool, north-westerly gusts in the east.

Two communities have been issued with a yellow level weather alert for strong winds and rough sea conditions: the Balearic Islands and Catalonia.

Few changes are expected on Sunday November 27, although heavy rain is forecast in Galicia and the Cantabrian area which will clear during the afternoon. The Canary Islands looks set for a mostly cloudy day but it will be largely clear in the Balearic Islands and the rest of Spain.

Daytime temperatures will tend to rise in most of the country, more notably in mountain areas and in the south of the country, although another drop is expected along the Andalucian Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts.

Weak frosts are expected in the north but have not ben ruled out in the southeast either.

A strong south-westerly wind will descend on Galicia, less intense to the northwest and in the Mediterranean.

No weather warnings have been issued for Sunday.
