Six Costa del Sol hamburgers are in the running for the tastiest in the country
Hamburgers probably aren’t a food most people associate with Spain, but the country likes its fast food as much as the next and the peninsula is home to some of the finest foreign eateries on the planet.
This year, the III Spanish Hamburger Championship is back and more than 250 patties have been submitted. In Malaga, no fewer than six tasty treats have made the cut but they’ll have to battle it out with some of most sumptuous sandwiches in Spain to be crowned winner.
See if your favourite is on the list:
1. La Gustosa from The Gallery
A unique mixture of sweet and smokey, the La Gustosa burger combines chutney and a home-made bacon sauce.
"Not forgetting the sautéed onion and mushroom with Provencal herbs, which gives it that Mediterranean country touch," The Gallery’s owner add.
Made from Galician blonde meat, this hamburger is crowned with a potato brioche and is dripping with cheddar cheese.
2. The Crush from Kanival
All of Kanival’s burgers are made with produce from Malaga or, failing that, items that are local to Andalucia.
As its name might suggest, the sandwich is a smash of two different patties from the Valle de los Pedroches, crushed together with cured cream cheese, blue Payoyo cheese and Malaga goat cheese and topped off with a sprinkling of pork rinds.
"Only suitable for lovers of Andalusian goat cheese,” its makers insist.
3. Santi Hate from La Burguesita
‘Santi Hate’ is a hamburger that was designed specifically for the Spanish championships.
It is the second instalment of a trilogy made in La Burguesita, a roller coaster of aromas and textures including smoked cheese, beef entrecôte flakes and Himalayan black salt.
4. El Dorado from Momag Burgers and Gin
"Our simple hamburger, but with a lot of flavour and with top quality products", is how the restaurant defines it. Its ingredients create a fusion of the pure taste of the meat with the sauce and toppings.
The El Dorado burger contains Paco Rosa golden beef dry aged for 50 days, cured American cheddar cheese, pulled pork, pickles, sweet onion and secret sauce all topped with Juanito Baker bread.
5. Jalapeño Burger from Cheat
Those who like it hot will opt for opt for a hamburger made from Miguel Vergara's Angus beef which is complemented with jalapeños, cheddar cheese, cheat sauce and home-made burger bread.
6. Black Widow from Dak Burger
"This is version 2.0 of one of our star burgers at our location,” the owners of Dsk Burger point out.
A taste explosion containing the staples of bacon and cheddar, “but things do not stop there since we use a sauce and an emulsion that together with the sautéed beef vacuum," creates a flavour that is both "balanced and spectacular".
