ARCHIVED - DANA and thunderstorms mark a radical change in conditions: Spain weather outlook Nov 10-13
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has forecast rain for most of Spain
Time to get those brollies out and keep them out, with rain expected across the vast majority of Spain from Thursday, thanks to a DANA (cold drop) that will generate thunderstorms and instable weather conditions over the next few days.
The pleasant mid-to-high 20s parts of the country have enjoyed of late are beginning to fall as we progress into November although temperatures remain warmer than normal.
The turn of the wind coinciding with the presence of high air from Thursday November 10 onwards will be decisive in the occurrence of heavy showers, especially in Ibiza and Formentera and Alicante province. In the afternoon it will lose intensity in these areas and gain strength between Valencia and the Balearic Islands.
Some areas of Catalonia, Murcia and the east of Andalusia will also be affected, although in a more isolated way.
Una #dana generará chubascos tormentosos en el área mediterránea a partir del jueves. "A DANA will generate stormy showers in the Mediterranean area starting Thursday. It is a typical autumnal situation, not extreme, but locally it can be adverse and we must be attentive to possible incidents, such as floods of dry riverbeds or accumulations of water in low-lying areas," warns Aemet.
Rainfall and possible thunderstorms are also expected on Friday and Saturday, November 11 and 12, in inland areas of Spain, from the Central and Iberian mountain ranges, southwards, passing through Extremadura, Castilla La Mancha and the west and south of Andalusia.
Rain is not ruled out in some areas of the Canary Islands, although it will be more isolated.
On Sunday November 13, a new Atlantic front will arrive from the west of the peninsula, according to Aemet, which will bring rain to Galicia and, from the afternoon onwards, to other areas of the western half of the peninsula.
Cloudy and overcast skies will persist in the Valencia Region, Murcia and part of the Balearic Islands, accompanied by downpours and thunderstorms, which may be heavy in some areas.
This Atlantic front will also cause a significant drop in temperatures which will continue into next week generating an almost wintry atmosphere in some regions and lower snow levels.
