Date set for new Primark superstore to open in Lorca, Murcia

It’s almost time for Lorca shoppers to flex their bank cards as the long-awaited arrival date for the new Primark superstore in Lorca, the third in the Region of Murcia, has finally been set.

Everyone’s favourite bargain shop will open its doors in the Parque Almenara mall on Tuesday November 21 at 10am. The impressive new premises will span 1,950 square metres of commercial space packed full of the latest fashions, everyday essentials, beauty products, leisure and household items, and the latest addition to the famous chain will create 65 new jobs in Lorca.

The superstore also boasts six self-checkouts for even easier shopping, in addition to its traditional manned counters.

Carlos Inacio, Managing Director of Primark for Spain and Portugal, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming our customers and employees to our fantastic new store in Lorca. This is a special moment for Primark as it also marks our 60th store in Spain since it first opened in 2006. At Primark we pride ourselves on offering something for everyone and we are convinced that our new customers will love the incredible line of products available in our new store in Lorca.”

Last year, Primark reinforced its commitment to Spain by announcing a capital investment of 100 million euros in the Spanish market. This includes 80 million euros for eight new stores and one expansion, and a budget of 20 million for the improvement and renovation of its existing shops.

Lorca will shortly become the fourth of these eight stores, after the opening of Primark Toledo Luz del Tajo in April, Primark Open Mall Lanzarote in June and Primark Parque Melilla in September, in addition to the expansion of the Diagonal Mar store in Barcelona in October.

On October 24, Leroy Merlin opened in the Almenara, bringing the shopping centre’s occupancy rate up to 95%.

Murcia’s second biggest centro comercial has more than just shopping – it’s everything you could want from a day out!

Parque Almenara Shopping Centre in the Lorca and Aguilas area

Parque Almenara is one of the largest retail and leisure malls in the Lorca and Águilas area, offering the full ‘all under one roof’ shopping experience, except it is open to the elements!

It has all your favourite brands and shops like Stradivarius and Mango, spread out over two easily accessed levels. There is also a Carrefour, plus larger retail units for electrical products and home and garden goods.

Unlike other shopping centres, Parque Almenara is a shopping mall where the stores are located in a network of streets, like a whole shopping village that covers almost 150,000m2, making it the second largest shopping centre in the Region of Murcia.

One of the most striking features of Parque Almenara is its three canvas tents suspended 20 metres above the outdoor area, creating a shaded zone and an oasis of calm right in the middle of the mall.

As well as the opportunity for a day’s retail therapy, Parque Almenara also offers the makings of good night out. There is a 10-pin bowling alley with 20 lanes and an entertainment complex, plus a multiscreen cinema with ten screens showing the latest offerings from Hollywood and the best 3D movies, and even original version English-language films.
