Dozens of towns in the Valencian Community to receive cash to promote motorhome tourism

Researchers have calculated that air travel contributes around 4% to human-induced global warming, and in addition to increasing air fares driven largely by the cost of living crisis, many travellers are opting for cleaner and more flexible alternatives.

An increasingly common option is motorhome and campervan touring, ideal for individuals, couples and families.

And to promote this form of tourism in non-coastal areas on the Costa Blanca, the Valencian Government has allocated just over 834,000 euros that will be distributed among 34 municipalities in the provinces of Valencia, Castellón and Alicante.

The objective is to extend the region's Punts Nets AVANT network which consists of geolocated service areas where motorhome users can refuel with drinking water and empty grey and black water, allowing them to comply with environmental waste treatment requirements.

The cash is intended to help cover the cost of constructing new clean points or the repair or improvement of existing ones.

In addition, these points have tourist panels with lots of information on the various attractions in each municipality and its surroundings "in order to make the most of the potential of the rural environment", according to the Director General of the Valencian Anti-Population Agenda (AVANT), Jeannette Segarra.

And each municipality can receive up to a maximum of 25,000 euros.

"The network seeks to facilitate the mobility of people who use motorhomes and can locate these Punts Nets through their mobile applications, with the aim of promoting greater visibility of these towns," added Segarra.

"The aim is to to help municipalities at risk of depopulation by improving the infrastructure of these towns, as well as boosting their economic activity and promoting the tourist attractions of their gastronomy, crafts, shops, historical and cultural heritage and the natural environment that surrounds them," she added.

Since the launch of the initiative three years ago, the Generalitat has allocated around 1.6 million euros that has benefited 56 municipalities integrated in the Punts Nets AVANT network.

The project is financed by the Territorial Cohesion Fund of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.

So which towns are in line for a slice of the cash?

Valencia province

Losa del Obispo, Estubeny, Sinarcas, Benissuera, Villar del Arzobispo, Alcublas, Titaguas, Camporrobles, Cortes de Pallás, Higueruelas, Gestalgar, Chulilla and Carrícola.

Castellón province

Cirat, la Torre d'en Besora, Canet lo Roig, Torralba del Pinar, Morella, Geldo, Catí, Benassal, les Coves de Vinromà, Torre d'en Doménec, Zorita del Maestrazgo, Culla, Rossell, Villanueva de Viver, Vilanova d'Alcolea, Tirig, Albocàsser, Vistabella del Maestrat, La Serratella and Vilafranca del Cid.

Only Fageca in Alicante province will benefit.
