Dramatic temperature drop as storms threaten: Spain weather forecast July 24-27
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
The heatwave comes to an end with temperatures falling by several degrees in southern Spain
Weather forecast for Tuesday July 25
The dates between July 15 and August 15 are typically the hottest of the year in Spain but meteorologists expect the heat to take a bit of a breather during the final stretch of this month. What’s more, State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) spokesperson Ruben del Campo predicts that much of inland Spain could be hit with dry storms by the middle of the week that will be accompanied by very intense gusts of wind.
Monday July 24 will continue the trend of recent days along the Mediterranean coast and in much of the southeast, where the temperatures could reach the low 40s at the height of the day and won’t drop below 24 or 26ºC at night.
It will be a largely clear day in most of the country with a hazy start in the southeast and the Balearic Islands, and the cloud cover will develop from west to east later in the afternoon. This could bring dry storms to eastern Spain and the Balearics and occasional heavy showers to the surrounds of the Pyrenees.
Orange weather alert for high temperatures: the Valencian Community.
Yellow weather alert for high temperatures: Andalucia, Balearic Islands, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia and the Region of Murcia.
The thermometers will take a noticeable drop in the entire country on Tuesday July 25 when only the Guadalquivir valley and the interior of the southeast will exceed 35ºC, pulling the overall temperatures down a little lower than is usual for this time of year. The only exceptions will the Canary Islands and parts of the extreme west, where the mercury could rise by a degree or two. Another mostly clear day is forecast with occasional stormy showers likely around the Pyrenees.
Yellow weather alert for rough seas: Balearic Islands and Catalonia (alert for heavy rain also).
The stormy front will travel to the Valencian Community, Murcia and Almeria on Wednesday July 26, where the skies will be overcast with a chance of some scattered but heavy showers. Clear skiers will predominate in the most of the country though, although the mercury will continue to fall, both day and night, in the Mediterranean area. Despite these drops it will remain very warm across the board with temperatures around the mid 30s expected in most of the southwest.
Yellow weather alert for rough seas: Balearic Islands and Catalonia.
The temperatures will take another upswing on Thursday July 27, particularly in the Mediterranean, central and northern Spain, but an approaching Atlantic front will result in a very overcast afternoon in the northwest. This weather pattern will also mean partially cloudy skies in the east of the country with possible showers and storms.
There are currently no weather warnings in place for Thursday.
