Franz Schubert Filharmonia 'honoured' to perform Alexey Shor at InClassica 2025 in Dubai
This year’s famous Dubai classical music concert will feature Spain’s Franz Schubert Filharmonia orchestra
Returning to Dubai for its fifth consecutive year, the world-renowned InClassica International Music Festival is celebrating its 14th annual edition this April with a two-week showcase of spectacular musical performances. Taking place from the 6th to the 21st of the month, this special iteration is dedicated to the legacy of Composer-in-Residence Alexey Shor, honouring the 55th birthday of the acclaimed composer through a series of performances presenting works from the baroque era to modern compositions.InClassica 2025 will feature a total of 16 concerts, featuring performances by two philharmonic orchestras alongside 14 internationally acclaimed soloists and five esteemed conductors. A significant highlight of the festival is the participation of Spain’s very own leading orchestra, the Franz Schubert Filharmonia, who will be making their grand debut at the prestigious festival taking place in the breathtaking Dubai Opera.
The acclaimed Barcelona-based orchestra, consisting of some of the finest musicians in Spain, will perform at six concerts at the grand affair, featuring an international repertoire of works and artists led by its chief conductor and artistic director, Tomàs Grau.
In conversation with the Franz Schubert Filharmonia, we spoke to the orchestra about their upcoming programme at InClassica, the collaborative process when working with diverse soloists and the impact of Alexey Shor’s compositions and musical style on contemporary music.

Alexey Shor, InClassica Composer-in-Residence
Are you looking forward to your performances at InClassica?
It is an extraordinary honour for Franz Schubert Filharmonia to be invited to the prestigious InClassica International Music Festival. This festival is a beacon of excellence in the classical music world, and making our debut in Dubai as part of its 14th edition fills us with immense pride and excitement. Preparing for such a diverse programme involves meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to artistic excellence. We approach each piece and collaboration with deep respect and dedication, ensuring that every nuance of the music is brought to life.
What sets InClassica apart from other music festivals, and how does the orchestra’s role enhance the overall experience for the audience?
InClassica stands apart thanks to its ability to masterfully combine artistic innovation with cultural celebration. Its commitment to excellence, both in programming and execution, creates a unique platform for artists and audiences alike. The festival’s dedication to uniting world-class artists fosters an alliance that elevates the musical experience to extraordinary heights. As the orchestra, our role is to be the canvas upon which these brilliant musical collaborations are painted, ensuring that the audience experiences a performance that is as inspiring as it is unforgettable.
You’ll be working with an impressive lineup of artists at InClassica, including soloists Roman Kim (Germany), Edgar Moreau (France), Maxim Vengerov (Monaco), Daniel Lozakovich (Sweden), and Gil Shaham (USA) and conductors such as Lionel Bringuier (France), Mikhail Pletnev (Switzerland), Tomàs Grau (Spain). What are your expectations for the collaboration with these distinguished maestros?
We’re very excited to work with our Music Director, Tomàs Grau, as well as all these distinguished conductors, each of whom brings a wealth of experience and a distinctive interpretative style. As for soloists, each artist brings an individual perspective and musical voice, enriching our interpretations and elevating our performance. We approach these collaborations with open communication and a shared commitment to excellence, anticipating a shared journey towards delivering performances that capture the soul of classical music.

Franz Schubert Filharmonia, Spanish Orchestra
Can you tell us more about the programme?
Our programme for InClassica features masterpieces that showcase the virtuosity of the soloists, the interpretative depth of the conductors, and the versatility of the orchestra. From timeless classics of Mendelssohn, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms or Tchaikovsky to contemporary gems of Alexey Shor and Mikhail Pletnev, the repertoire is designed to inspire the audience. We are particularly excited about Alexey Shor’s compositions as they celebrate melody and emotion, bridging the gap between tradition and innovation. His music resonates deeply with audiences, offering a refreshing contrast to much of the contemporary repertoire. We are excited to bring Alexey Shor’s works to life and explore the unique narrative and emotional depth they convey. It is an honour to contribute to this celebration of Alexey Shor’s artistic legacy.
What role does the festival play in fostering collaboration between the orchestra and world-class soloists?
By fostering mutual respect, open communication, and shared passion, the festival lays the foundation for meaningful artistic partnerships. To facilitate this dynamic, we prioritise rehearsal time, dialogue and a collective commitment to excellence, ensuring that each performance showcases individuality along with ensemble cohesion.
