The first week of July begins with locally heavy showers and thunderstorms in many parts of Spain, especially the north, and temperatures more bearable than a week ago, but this will give way to very hot weather later in the week.

Aragón, Catalonia and Valencia are on orange alert for a significant weather risk of accumulated rainfall of up to 40 litres per square meter in an hour, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). Andalusia, Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, Madrid and La Rioja will also be under a yellow warning for rain.

In Catalonia, storms and accumulated rainfall of up to 40 litres per square metre in one hour are expected in Barcelona and Girona, with the possibility of large hail stones and very strong gusts of wind, although it will also rain heavily in Lleida and Tarragona.
In Aragón, storms and rainfall will leave up to 30 litres per square metre in one hour in large areas of Teruel. In Castilla y León, the storms will leave rainfall of up to 20 litres per square metre in one hour in Soria and in Castilla-La Mancha, rainfall of up to 15 litres per square metre per hour is expected in areas of Guadalajara and Cuenca, with the probability of hail.
This week, the temperatures will be closer to the usual values for this time of year. The heat will be more bearable, although intense in some areas of the south of the peninsula.
Temperatures will reach the mid-30s in the southern half of Spain and even up to 40ºC in Seville and other parts of Andalusia like Córdoba, while Galicia and the north will be more around the low- to mid-20s.
From Tuesday July 4 and Wednesday 5 onwards, there may be thunderstorms in Mallorca and in the mountain ranges of the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula. In the second half of the week, the rainfall will be restricted to the north while the rest of the country heats up in the sun.
