Frosty and foggy this weekend: Spain weather forecast December 27-29
The weather throughout Spain promises to be mostly sunny, dry and bright this weekend
Average temperatures forecast on Sunday December 29
Christmas week has been bright, sunny and dry in most of Spain and the good news is that this pleasant, stable weather is set to continue over the coming weekend in the run-up to New Year.
Due to a DANA close at hand, the west of the Canary Islands has experienced a few rainy days, and it’s been especially wet in the northeast, but over the next few days, fog will be the main trouble maker.
Friday December 27
As the anticyclonic situation continues throughout Spain, numerous dense fog banks will form inland, creating potentially treacherous driving conditions. Yellow alerts for thick, persistent fog have been issued in Aragon, Castilla y Leon, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia and Galicia, while a yellow alert for strong gusts of wind has been issued in Andalucía.
Overall though, the skies will be mostly clear with some high clouds, with only a slight chance of rain along the coast of the Valencian Community, Murcia and eastern Andalucía.
In the Canary Islands, the haze is expected to continue, with higher concentrations in the eastern islands.
Daytime temperatures will tend to decrease, hitting a maximum of 17ºC or 18ºC in southern Spain.
Saturday December 28
As we head into the weekend proper, those fog warnings will remain in place until lunch time, and a strong easterly wind in the Strait means that Andalucía is under a yellow warning for rough sea conditions.
Elsewhere though, Saturday will be bright and sunny with almost no rain forecast, except for a few possible showers in the northwest of the Canary Islands, Alboran and the Strait.
Daytime temperatures will fall by another degree or two and night-time temperatures will drop across the board. As a result, frost will become more widespread and intense.
Sunday December 29
The stable weather is expected to persist in most of the country, with mostly clear or partly cloudy skies and very little rain on the horizon. Only in the extreme north of the country are cloudy skies forecast, with the possibility of some light precipitation in northern Galicia and the Cantabrian area.
The haze is likely to continue in the Canary Islands, where the temperatures will also fall.
Few changes are expected elsewhere.
Fog warnings remain in place in Castilla y Leon, Castilla-La Mancha and Galicia.
