Fuerteventura named top Easter getaway by The Independent
British and German media spotlight the Canary Island’s white sands and turquoise waters
If you are still dreaming of the perfect Easter escape, The Independent may have just helped you narrow it down. The popular British newspaper, read by more than 19 million people each month, has named Fuerteventura one of the eight best destinations to visit this Easter.
The island, part of the Canaries, has been steadily rising on the list of favourite European holiday spots, and this latest mention gives it another boost. In a statement, the Fuerteventura Island Council welcomed the recognition, saying it enhances the island’s reputation abroad. The Independent highlighted Fuerteventura’s natural beauty, its mild year-round climate, and the peaceful, authentic atmosphere it offers travellers looking to get away from it all.
And it is not just the British who are taking notice. Over in Germany, one of the leading travel platforms, HolidayCheck, has featured Playa de la Concha in El Cotillo. This beach, located in the north of the island, was praised for both its unspoilt surroundings and its convenient services. Reviewers pointed to its easy accessibility, good local restaurants, and suitability for families.
According to the Fuerteventura Tourist Board, this kind of international recognition is the result of several years of work promoting the island abroad. “Fuerteventura is today a competitive, well positioned destination, increasingly valued by European travellers seeking a unique experience, in contact with nature and away from crowds,” said a representative from the board.
Anyone who has visited will understand why. From the moment you arrive, Fuerteventura opens up before you with vast volcanic landscapes, stretches of white sand, and dazzling turquoise waters. In the north, Corralejo Natural Park impresses with its enormous dunes rolling into the Atlantic. Further south, the Jandía Peninsula offers stark contrasts, with arid hills giving way to near untouched beaches like Cofete — wild, remote, and unforgettable.
With spring around the corner, and peace and quiet at a premium, it is no surprise Fuerteventura is capturing so much attention.
