Get ready for a hot spell followed by a cold snap: Murcia weekly weather forecast February 19-25
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
The week starts off nice before temperatures drop suddenly and the winds pick up
We will have mostly warm and sunny weather in the Region of Murcia this week, with some wildly fluctuating temperatures and a chance of rainfall and strong winds as we head towards next weekend.
The week starts off sunny this Monday February 19, with barely a cloud in the sky, wind speeds not breaching the 10kmh mark, and temperatures reaching up to the low-20s at the warmest point of the day, which will be at around 4pm.
On Tuesday 20, these pleasant conditions will continue and maximum temperatures will go up slightly. On Wednesday 21, they will be back down again, but the real whopper comes on the next day.
Murcia weather forecast, Tuesday February 20
For Thursday February 22, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) is forecasting maximum temperatures during the day of 27 and 28ºC in the central parts of the Region, around Totana, Alhama, Molina de Segura and Murcia capital. Cartagena, the Mar Menor, the far north and the southern coast will all be slightly lower than this, at around 22-26ºC.

On Friday 23, however, those unusually high daytime temperatures are forecast to drop by 10 whole degrees, leaving central Murcia with maximums of 18ºC, while Cartagena and the south get 20ºC and the north plunges down to 14-15ºC. Night-time temperatures, too, will drop by between 2 and 5 degrees.

This sudden ‘cold’ snap comes as the provinces of Jaén and Albacete bordering the north and west of Murcia experience rain, thunderstorms and snowfall at high altitudes, not to mention winds of up to 30kmh that could continue into Saturday 24 and spread over the border into Murcia.
For now, the weekend is looking fairly dry and sunny, though cloudy and a bit chillier, but that forecast could yet change to become wetter and windier as the week goes on.
