Heavy rain continues after DANA: Spain weather forecast Nov 4-7

The storm’s days are numbered, but southern Spain can still expect more downpours this week

Weather alerts on Monday November 4

A week after it formed off the coast of Spain, the DANA or ‘Depresión Aislada en Niveles Altos’ (‘Isolated Depression at High Levels’) is starting to weaken, but its after-effects will continue to cause havoc in a large part of the Mediterranean and southern Spain this coming week.

Sadly, the torrential rain has continued to fall in some of the hardest hit regions over the weekend with ground zero, Valencia, issued with a red weather alert and the likes of Almeria and Murcia placed under orange warnings.

The good news is that in the last few hours, the DANA was reabsorbed by the general weather systems, but this means that the entire country will fluctuate between ridges and troughs throughout the week. The result? Unstable weather in most areas with plenty of showers and storms forecast, although they won’t be nearly as bad as what we experienced last week.

Monday November 4

Monday will begin in the last throes of the DANA, with heavy showers and storms expected on the coasts of Tarragona and northern Castellon during the early hours of the morning. These rains will also continue to batter the north of the province of Valencia, large parts of inland Spain and the extreme west of the country later in the evening. Afternoon showers are also likely along the south-east coast.

As a result, an orange warning has been activated by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) in Catalonia, while yellow alerts are in place in Extremadura and the Valencian Community.

Daytime temperatures won’t alter a great deal, but the mercury will dip in the west and rise very slightly in eastern Andalucía.

Tuesday November 5

The rain will finally give the Mediterranean a break on Tuesday, but the Atlantic coast will instead bear the brunt of an approaching Atlantic front. Widespread rain is forecast Huelva, Castilla y Leon and southern Galicia, although only Extremadura has been issued with a storm warning.

Elsewhere in the country, the day will alternate between dark clouds and sunny spells.

Wherever the rain falls the temperatures should follow suit on Tuesday, although much of the country will still record highs in the low to mid-20s.

Wednesday November 6

Rain will return to the Mediterranean communities on Wednesday, but it will have lost most of its intensity and there are no weather warnings. Showers are a possibility in the eastern Mediterranean area and the Strait of Gibraltar but for the most part, the day should be mild and bright.

Following this, the temperatures will climb along the Atlantic coast and in the Canary Islands.

Thursday November 7

Pleasant weather is again forecast, with mostly cloudy skies with plenty of sunny spells. However, there’s a chance of rain and storms in most of eastern Spain, the Balearic Islands and the Strait of Gibraltar.

Daytime temperatures will increase in the Canary Islands, areas in the north of the Atlantic and Cantabrian slopes, and coastal areas in the south of the country.
