Cartagena City Council has opened the application process for municipal aid for the "energy rehabilitation" of homes, meaning that homes in 15 neighbourhoods around Cartagena can get financial aid to install solar panels.
The area includes 272 homes for possible action and has the technical support of the Technological Center for Energy and the Environment (CETENMA), which was awarded the Energy Rehabilitation Office, contemplated in the aid project.
The mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, has said that the program will be in effect until December 2026, but has insisted that "it is very important to spread the word that these grants exist", because the main fear is that due to ignorance the entire budget will not be used.
The budget exceeds 2 million euros, of which there are 400,000 euros reserved to act on homes of families without resources. Such families could obtain up to 100% of the subsidy for their energy rehabilitation project.
"We do not want a single euro to go unspent," stressed the mayor, who announced the launch of a mobile information office that will "go from neighbourhood to neighbourhood, informing residents and making them aware of the aid, how to apply for it and advising those interested".
For Arroyo, it is essential that "the money reaches the residents of the neighbourhoods where the project is going to take place, so that they can reduce their energy bills and improve the efficiency of their homes".
Renovation projects can receive up to a maximum of 15,000 euros in aid, depending on the investment and the expected energy savings. Aid amounts to between 30 and 60% of the investment and up to 100% for low-income families.
The aid programme is designed to intervene in homes that have aged and are energy inefficient located in the neighbourhoods of La Baña, Los Barreros, Barriada Cuatro Santos, Los Dolores, Los Gabatos, El Plan, Barrio Peral, Urbanización Media Sala, Urbanización Mediterráneo, Nueva Cartagena, San Antón, Barriada Virgen de la Caridad, San Ginés, El Ensanche-Almarjal and Cartagena Casco.
