ARCHIVED - July 14 to 17 Fiestas of the Virgen del Carmen in San Pedro del Pinatar 2022
The highlight of the fiestas in San Pedro is the largest maritime procession in the Costa Cálida
The municipality of San Pedro del Pinatar celebrates its annual fiestas in honour of the Virgen del Carmen, the patron of fishermen, with the main events taking place on and around her feast day on July 16.
On that date the figure of the Virgin is taken out to sea (in this case the Mar Menor, not the Mediterranean) to pay tribute to those lost at sea. Similar maritime processions are celebrated in several places around the Region of Murcia, but the celebration in San Pedro del Pinatar is the largest and most important and has been awarded Regional Tourist Interest status.
Thursday July 14
11.00 and 12.00: Guided visits to the fish market to see the catches, the fishing gear, the handling of
nets (in Spanish). Prior registration and confirmation are required at the Tourist Office, via inscripciones@sanpedrodelpinatar.es or on 968 182301.
20.30: Drilo & The Kids Band, musical entertainment for young children in the Parque de los Reyes de España in Lo Pagán.
Friday July 15

21.00: Offering to the Virgen del Carmen. The Fiestas Queen and her maids of honour leave the residence of the Madres Franciscanas in the company of well-wishers, to make an offering to the Virgen del Carmen of local products. Music from the Grupo de Coros y Danzas “El Pinar” de la Peña el Caldero.
22.30: Always Luis Miguel, a tribute show to the singer Luis Miguel in the Parque de los Reyes de España in Lo Pagán.
Saturday 16 July, the feast day of the Virgen del Carmen (declared of Regional Tourist Interest)
7.00: Musical parade through the streets of San Pedro del Pinatar.
7.30: Musical parade through the streets of Lo Pagán with the band of cornets and drums.
8.00: Holy Mass, in honour of the Virgen del Carmen and a performance by the group A Piacere in the Plaza de la Constitución.
9.00: Departure from the Plaza de la Constitución of the figure of the Virgen del Carmen on her pilgrimage to Lo Pagán.
11.00: Solemn maritime procession of the Excelsa Patron of the Spanish Navy through the waters of the Mar Menor, accompanied by decorated boats which follow the traditional route. During the maritime procession, an offering of carnations will be made in memory of those who have lost their lives at sea.
All participating boat owners are requested to turn off the boat engines and remain silent during this memorial.
12.00: Mass on the Esplanade of the fish market of Lo Pagán, followed by the procession of the Virgen del Carmen through the streets of Lo Pagán to the Church of Carmen.
23.30: Monumental fireworks display on the seafront of Lo Pagán in the Parque de SSMM Reyes de España to bid farewell to the Virgen del Carmen.
Midnight: Return of the figure of the Virgen del Carmen to the Church of San Pedro Apóstol.
Sunday 17 July
1.00: Solemn entrance of the figure of the Virgen del Carmen into the church of San Pedro Apóstol in San Pedro del Pinatar. Singing of the Salve Marinera and the final firecrackers of the fiestas.
22.30: Concert, “Al Son del Malecón”, in the Parque de los Reyes de España in Lo Pagán.

The municipality of San Pedro del Pinatar has one principal tourist information office which is open throughout the year, and then other tourist information points which open during the peak summer months. Due to its location on the fringes of the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean coastline, San Pedro del Pinatar has a period of intense summer tourism activity during the peak summer months, although is popular with retirees of all nationalities out of peak season.
Much of the tourism activity is directed into these peak months, although the Salinas natural park and health tourism hotels in San Pedro del Pinatar make this a popular destination throughout the year.
