Jumilla will host competition to select the best wines in Spain

Jumilla will be the epicentre for the wine sector during the VinEspaña 2024 event

It is the first national wine competition to be held in the Region of Murcia, from February 29 to March 2 and will bring together a large number of wine professionals in Jumilla

Jumilla will host competition to select the best wines in Spain

The sixth edition of the National Wine Competition in Spain, VinEspaña 2024, has been officially presented and will be held in Jumilla from Thursday February 29 to Saturday March 2. Here, the best wines in the country will be selected.

This national wine competition is expected to receive more than 500 samples, which will be assessed by a jury made up of oenologists and journalists specialising in the wine sector.

The presentation of the event in Jumilla was attended by the Mayoress of Jumilla, Seve González, the Regional Minister of Agriculture of the Region of Murcia, Sara Rubira, and the Director General of Food Industry, Fulgencio Pérez, in addition to the president of the Spanish Federation of Oenologists’ Associations, Luis Buitrón, as well as Antonio Caravaca, president of the Murcian Oenologists' Association, and Silvano García, president of the Jumilla PDO.

As the Mayoress of Jumilla explained, “We will have three intense days ahead of us in which Jumilla will be the epicentre of Spanish winemaking and this is something that, as a Jumilla resident and as mayor, fills me with pride. We will have a large number of professionals from the sector here who will be taking in Jumilla, our gastronomy, our culture and our heritage.”

She continued, “Jumilla has the qualities and potential to put us on a par with any other wine-growing area in Spain, which is why we need to promote the Jumilla brand, adding our grain of sand to the daily efforts of our farmers and winemakers.”

Also at the presentation of VinEspaña 2024, the Regional Minister for Agriculture, Livestock, Water and Fisheries, Sara Rubira, accompanied the Jumilla Town Council and the organisers of VinEspaña 2024, announced that Murcia’s winegrowers would be able to access the green harvest aid in 2024, as the region has already applied to the Ministry for wine producers to be able to access it.

The Regional Minister for Agriculture has also announced that she has asked the Ministry of Agriculture to increase the budget for aid and investment in wineries.

“These measures will help to improve the economic sustainability of the companies and to better face the challenges of the future,” concluded Minister Rubira.
