Looking for a new hobby? Top 10 fun things to do while living in Spain
Check out these 10 great hobbies to try when you’re in Spain

Living in Spain is a joy in itself. Each day you wake up to blue skies and sunshine. However, sometimes you may want to do something that doesn’t involve lounging around the pool each day. Luckily for you, there are tons of fun and exciting activities you can take up in Spain.
Try any one of these activities, and you may just find a new hobby to fall in love with.
1. Online poker
If you are a fan of playing poker with friends or at a brick-and-mortar casino, you may want to try online poker. Poker online in Spain is a great way to have some fun, and you don’t even have to leave the house!
All the rules are pretty much the same as the game you’re used to, but there are variations where it might be different. You’ll have to find an online casino available in Spain that offers the best bonuses and tournaments, so you make the most out of your poker experience.
2. Football
You may be a fan of watching football, but have you ever played the sport yourself? It is a great way to get in some exercise and release your competitive streak. The best thing is that any age can play football and the rules are very easy to understand.
If you’re unsure who to play football with, you can most likely find a group playing in your area. Look up any clubs or ask around your area. Not only will you be able to get fitter and have fun, but you may be able to make some new friends too.
3. Golf
If you’re looking to take up a new sport, but don’t want something that involves too much running around, then golf is perfect for you. Many people love it, and it’s the perfect thing to do on a warm day with an ice-cold drink.
Spain is known for its golf courses, and some people even frequent some areas for special golf holidays, so it shouldn’t be hard for you to find somewhere to play. Look up golf courses in your region, and no doubt, one will pop up immediately.
4. Horse riding
This one is for all the animal lovers. Horse riding is a hobby many people love, and it sometimes becomes their entire life. You get to have fun, go on scenic routes around Spain, and make a furry friend as well.
There is an abundance of stables around Spain, and horse riding lessons don’t cost too much if you want to get started. One thing you may have to keep in mind is that the lessons may have to be in the evenings in the summer, so you and the horse won't get too hot.
5. Sailing
Do you love the beach and the open ocean? Well, why not take up sailing? It’s a great way to get some fresh air and see various other parts of Spain from afar. You can also decide to do it alone for some quality time or spend it with friends or family.
You can either invest in your own boat and start sailing that way, or you can opt to take sailing lessons where you’ll be able to learn on someone else's boat. Visit your local harbour or yacht club to learn more about who’s offering lessons so you can get started.
6. Flamenco dancing
Put your dancing shoes on and start doing flamenco! This traditional Spanish dance is not only amazing to watch, but you can also have a lot of fun taking part in it. It can help you absorb the Spanish culture better while getting in a bit of exercise as well.
You will probably be able to find flamenco dance lessons in one of your local Spanish bars, and you will most likely meet lots of interesting people. If you can’t find one, then you may want to ask around or search for the nearest lesson.
7. Hiking
If you want to be at one with nature and take up a hobby that doesn’t cost a thing, then you might want to start frequenting your local hiking trails. The great thing about Spain is that there are plenty of scenic routes you can take, no matter where you are in the country.
You will probably be able to find somewhere to hike by simply walking outside your front door; however, you can also ask some other locals about what their favourite spot is. You can absorb the beauty of the country you live in while getting fit simultaneously.
8. Photography
If you have a decent camera lying around and you want to try something new, why not try practicing photography? It’s an art form that many people enjoy doing, and it’s a fantastic way to see some of the best sites in Spain.
What you take photos of is up to you, and it can take time to find your niche. Start by visiting your favourite venues in your area and snapping some scenic shots, or you can ask some people if they’ll let you take their photos.
9. Water sports
If you visit almost any beach in Spain, you’ll be able to discover various different forms of water sports. From paddle boarding to jet skiing, there are tons to do, and you’ll never be short of choice when you want to try something new.
You may have to pay to use the equipment, to begin with, but if you try watersports and decide you love it, then you may want to invest in the equipment yourself. You’re then open to visiting the beach every day and heading out into the sea.
10. Bird watching
This is another one for you nature lovers. If you love sitting in silence and taking in your surroundings, then you may want to start bird watching. There are various unique species found in Spain, and you can find it quite exciting to spot one of them.
All you really need is a pair of binoculars and a resource that tells you about the birds you’ll be watching. Find a spot where birds frequent with little noise, and you’ll be able to sit back, relax, and find a beautiful bird to watch.
