March 27 to April 5 Semana Santa 2026 in Abarán
Colourful processions in the Ricote Valley with the highlights on Good Friday and Easter Sunday
The Easter Week processions of Abarán in the Ricote Valley are among the most colourful of all those held in the Region of Murcia and have enjoyed Fiesta of Regional Tourist Interest status since 1985.
In these celebrations of the Passion of Christ religious and civil authorities are both represented, with the Plaza del Ayuntamiento outside the Town Hall hosting one of the most popular events: the procession of the meeting between Jesus and the Virgin Mary on Easter Sunday. This is perhaps the most special of all the events during the week, the climax being when after Jesus salutes his mother for the third time her black shawl falls to the ground, revealing the joyous white representing the resurrection of her son.
Another key moment is the Godd Friday morning procession, which starts and ends on the Paseo de la Ermita. The views from here are an added attraction for visitors to Blanca, looking out over the valley and the Sierra del Oro and the sanctuary which is home to the patron of the town, the la Virgen del Oro.
In 2026 the work being carried out at the church of San Pablo makes it necessary for the processions which usually begin there to leave instead from Calle Domingo Gómez.
The processionary schedule for Semana Santa 2026 in Abarán is as follows:
