Mazarrón Council Health Department and pest control company Lokímica Laboratories have launched a new campaign to inform the public about how to control mosquitoes, cockroaches and rodents
With the arrival of summer, Mazarrón Department of Health and the pest control company Lokímica have launched a new campaign to inform the population about how to control urban pests such as mosquitoes, cockroaches and rodents. During the presentation of the campaign, Carmen Navarro, Mazarrón Councillor for Health, and Lidia Nájar, technical biologist of Lokímica, offered several tips and techniques to protect our homes and environments.
To combat mosquitoes. It is essential to take a number of preventive measures. It is advisable to cover wells and cisterns, change the water in animal drinking bowls regularly and cover swimming pools when not in use. In addition, it is important to treat the vegetation around the house weekly and pour standing water into the drain every five days. Keepinging an eye on drip irrigation and emptying and air conditioning receptacles are also crucial steps to prevent the proliferation of these insects.
As for cockroaches and rodents, it is essential to treat home manholes and hire pest control companies in urbanizations. In homes, preventive measures such as weather seal strips and mosquito nets should be installed, plug drains when not in use, and cover wells and cisterns. In addition, it is advisable to also place mosquito nets in gaps and windows, as well as to cover any cracks or holes in garages, pantries and storage rooms.
The campaign also highlights which products can be used to control these pests. For mosquito larvae control in stagnant water, silicone is an effective option. This product is applied to the water where mosquitoes breed, forming a film that prevents the respiration of larvae and pupae. Effervescent tablets are another solution, specifically developed to treat water in closed water systems in urban areas, such as sewers, septic tanks, ponds, fountains and used tires. In addition, chlorine and household insecticides, such as pyrethroids, are useful.
From Mazarrón Health Department and the Lokímica company, residents are encouraged to actively collaborate following these recommendations to keep their homes free from pests and contribute to a better quality of life in our municipality.
The Councillor for Health stated “It’s great that the Health department and Lokímica are collaborating on a campaign to inform people about controlling mosquitoes, cockroaches, and rodents”.
