ARCHIVED - Mazarron doggy beach voted as one of the 10 best to enjoy with your pet
Pet accessories company Dukier has chosen Las Moreras beach as one of the best in Spain
With the Easter holidays approaching, many people will be planning a quick get-away to enjoy the local festivities and the pleasant spring weather. For pet owners, one of the many joys of vacations is taking the dog for a run on the beach and watching him frolic in the waves.
However, in Spain, only 115 of the 3,000 beaches officially allow dogs and anyone caught walking their canine companion where they’re not permitted could be hit with a hefty fine.
For this very reason, online pet accessories company Dukier has surveyed every coast in the country and come up with ten of the very best beaches to enjoy with your pooch, one of which is Las Moreras in Mazarrón.
1. Las Moreras Beach (Mazarrón, Murcia)
Playa de las Moreras is a semi-urban Mediterranean beach, one of the 33 which are to be found along the 35-kilometre coastline of Mazarrón between the municipalities of Cartagena and Lorca. With more than 500 metres of dog-friendly space, pets are allowed throughout the year and there are plenty of bars, restaurants and shops close by.
2. Cala Mosca (Alicante, Valencian Community)
Located in the Cabo Peñas area of Orihuela, Cala Mosca is ideal for those looking for a quieter spot since it’s situated well away from any big developments. Pet owners can walk their dogs in this cove all year round.
3. O Espiño and O Portiño Beaches (Pontevedra, Galicia)
These two pristine beaches are located next to the San Vicente do Mar marina. They are both semi-urban with fine white sand and although the coves themselves don’t have any services, there are plenty of bars, shops and parking spots nearby.
4. El Rinconín Beach (Gijón, Asturias)
This rocky inlet is right at the end of the promenade in San Lorenzo. It’s usually packed to capacity in the summer months but dogs are still allowed throughout the year.
5. Maza Beach (San Vicente de la Barquera, Cantabria)
This beach is located in San Vicente de la Barquera and is popularly known as Playa de los Vagos. Dogs are permitted at all times since this is one of the quieter bathing spots in the town.
6. Punta del Riu (Tarragona, Catalonia)
Punta del Riu is situated in Mont-roig in the municipality of Miami Playa, about 30km south of Tarragona. It is a small beach, where dogs can run free year round.
7. Camposoto Beach (Cádiz, Andalusia)
This beach is located within the Natural Park of the Bay of Cádiz and stretches over more than 6 kilometres, plenty of space for dogs to run.
8. El Cable Beach (Granada, Andalusia)
Located in the town of Motril, El Cabe is packed with tourists in high season due to its impressive size and easy access. It’s known locally as ‘Playacan’, because until recently it was the only beach in Granada that allowed dogs.
9. Cala del Moral beach (Málaga, Andalusia)
The cove is found in the Málaga municipality of Rincón de la Victoria, next to the El Cantal promenade. It is easily accessible and pets are allowed throughout the year.
10. Acapulco Beach (Santa Cruz, Tenerife)
Acapulco is the first beach in Santa Cruz de Tenerife that allows dogs to enter the sandy area. A semi-urban beach where bathers freely go with their pets at all times.
