The Malaga town is bringing together all the local golf information on a single page in an innovative public-private partnership
Mijas Town Hall in Malaga province has launched the mijassolygolf.com platform which brings together all the information on the twelve golf courses in the municipality in English, Spanish, German and Swedish.
First deputy Mayor and Councillor for Tourism in Mijas, José Carlos Martín, explained that, “It is a modern platform, which allows interaction and the booking of green fees, with detailed information, sequentially and in 360 degrees, with all the data of all golf courses in Mijas, which allows us to make a leap of quality in digitisation in a segment so important to break the seasonality of tourism.”
The new website, which has been financed with a grant of 28,300 euros from the Junta de Andalucía’s Munitic programme for the implementation of new technologies in the tourism sector, promotes the municipality more strongly on an international level.
The new platform has been enthusiastically welcomed by businessmen and golf professionals after its presentation. The head of Golf Accounts at La Cala Resort, Silvia Ortega, considered the website to be very interesting and thanked the Mijas Town Hall “for all the support they are giving to the golf segment, which is so important for tourism in our municipality”.
For his part, the managing director of El Chaparral Golf Club, Domingo Gavira, stressed that “it is an alliance to position ourselves in the national and international market”. According to the professionals, this type of action gives visibility to the golf courses and help to attract tourism in the low season.
Mijas has now become the first municipality in Andalucía to have its own golf brand that includes all its courses in a public-private partnership to relaunch the destination and position it at the forefront of this sport at an international level.
“This brand is a symbol of the quality of Mijas because behind it are some of the best golf courses in the world with professionals in the sector with extensive experience,” said Martín.
The deputy mayor stressed that the commitment to golf is due to “the way in which this sport breaks the seasonal nature, the sustainability that it represents by being integrated into nature and the open air, the quality tourism that it generates with visitor profiles of high economic impact on the city as well as the media coverage as it is a very popular activity at international level and, in Spain, it is the third sport in terms of number of members”.
