ARCHIVED - Murcia heatwave brings highs of nearly 40 degrees: weather forecast April 24-30
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
Meteorologists have warned of “exceptionally high” temperatures to come in Murcia this week
If you thought we were having freakishly warm weather before, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet. The weather forecast for this week in the Region of Murcia predicts that temperatures are going to shoot up and just keep rising, until they hit highs of just shy of 40ºC/104ºF next weekend, on Saturday April 29.
This heatwave, which will be accompanied by an unbroken spell of sunshine and dry weather, is expected to last all week, and come to an end on Sunday April 30, when the “exceptionally high” temperatures will begin to ease off once again, according to the State Meteorological Agency in Spain, Aemet.
The week actually starts on a pleasant day with high temperatures that we have become used to by now of 24-27ºC in the middle of the day. However, there is a real jump up in minimum temperatures as of this week, which will be between 5 and 10 degrees warmer than last week.
On Tuesday April 25 and Wednesday 26, the maximum temperatures during the hottest point of the day – around 5/6pm – will also be a full 10ºC more than they were on the same days last week, getting up to 34ºC in central areas like Caravaca de la Cruz and Totana. On the southern coast of Murcia, in Cartagena and Mazarrón, it will be more like 24-27ºC.
By Friday 28, there will actually be significant cloud cover beginning to roll in across Murcia in the afternoon and it will hang around for most of Saturday too. Even so, it will do nothing to abate the sweltering temperatures, which will rise to 30-32ºC on the coast, 38ºC in the central areas of the Region, including Lorca, Alhama and Cieza and 39ºC in Murcia city.

The heatwave will ease off on Sunday April 30 as we head into the May 1 Bank Holiday, but it will still be very hot, with temperatures at night-time not falling lower than 14ºC and rising up to the low-30s during the day.
