ARCHIVED - Murcia hoteliers plan phase 1 of their smart city in the Caribbean
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
The city was designed by Murcia company Clerph and aims to be a self-contained macro-resort built to the highest standards of luxury
Murcian company Clerph stole the show at this year’s Fitur fair in Madrid with impressive plans to build a macro-resort in Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. The so-called smart city will be located just 10 kilometres from the Caribbean coast and construction is due to begin later this year.
Larimar City & Resort will cover around 2.7 million square metres and will include a boardwalk packed full of bars, restaurants and shops surrounded by swimming pools and water attractions, green leisure areas, a shopping centre and sports, health and education clubs.
If that wasn’t enough, the state-of-the-art resort will have its own golf course and country club, schools, a university, health services, offices and hotels. There will be several dedicated children’s play areas and courts for every sport imaginable.
Essentially, everything a visitor would want for the perfect holiday in a luxury setting, as well as catering to the needs of longer-term residents.
The first phase of the resort, which is already drawing the attention of some big European and American investors, should be completed in 2025. It will begin with the construction of two key residential buildings: Prime Towers and Horizon View, as well as several artificial beaches and pools that will span 3 kilometres of the boardwalk with views over the nearby cove of Punta Cana.
Juan Andrés Romero, CEO of Clerhp, explains, "with Larimar City & Resort we have created a unique project in the area, to build from scratch a concept of a sustainable and intelligent city, which will bet on renewable energy, the reduction of energy expenditure and the optimization of water resources.”
Once completed, the self-contained city it is expected to have an estimated potential population of up to 55,000 residents, who will occupy the 20,000 homes and other complexes, such as hotels, that will be located in Larimar City & Resort.
