Murcia weather forecast May 22-28: It is going to rain all week long

The Emergency Protection Service in Murcia is warning people to prepare for flooding
The Spanish have a saying when it comes to the weather: ‘Cuando marzo mayea, mayo marcea’. When the weather in March is like May, the weather in May is like March. Well, it seems that this folk wisdom is right as, after the extraordinarily warm March this year with barely a drop of rain, the forecast now is for massive thunderstorms and torrential rains.
Weather warnings have been issued for rain, storms and even hail across almost the entire Region of Murcia for Monday May 22 and Tuesday 23. Gale force 7 winds are expected, with thunderstorms leaving rainfall of up to 20mm/hour.
While there are currently no weather alerts in place beyond that, the rain is forecast to continue for all of Wednesday 24 and, after a brief respite on Wednesday night, resume on Thursday 25.
It is not unheard of in the Region of Murcia for sudden, heavy rains such as these to cause flooding on the roads and lead waterways to overflow, presenting a danger to life and property.
Saturday 27 will be a little more settled, with just dark, grey skies, though there will be a fresh outburst of rain on Sunday 28.
Given the drizzly outlook, the Municipal Emergency and Civil Protection Service has released citizen advice for what to do when faced with such heavy rains:
Do not park vehicles or camp in dry riverbeds or ‘ramblas’ to avoid being surprised by a sudden rise in water or a flood.
Periodically check the roof and drainpipes of your house to remove any accumulation of debris, leaves, soil, etc., which may obstruct the flow of water.
Remove any objects from outside your house that could be swept away by the water.
If you must leave your home, turn off the electricity, gas and water. Do not touch electrical appliances if they are wet.
Stay informed of the flood situation via the media to know whether or not it is safe to leave your house.
In the event of a downpour, if you have to travel, try to travel preferably on main roads and motorways at a moderate speed.
