The Region of Murcia now ranks fourth in Spain for foreign home purchases
The Region of Murcia has solidified its status as a key player in Spain’s real estate market, particularly when it comes to attracting foreign buyers. According to the latest data from the Spanish Association of Registrars, foreign nationals accounted for 23.58% of all home sales in Murcia during the second quarter of 2024, placing it as the fourth most popular region for foreign home purchases in Spain, trailing only the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands and the Valencian Community.
Nationally, the demand for housing from foreign buyers saw a modest increase, rising by 0.63% from the previous quarter to make up 14.84% of total sales. While this figure is slightly below the 14.94% recorded in the same quarter of 2023, it underscores the enduring significance of foreign investment in Spain’s property market.
Over 21,700 property transactions were completed by foreigners during this period, reflecting a small but notable increase from the previous quarter’s 21,500.
Murcia’s strong performance in attracting foreign buyers is particularly noteworthy considering that only three other autonomous communities boast a higher percentage of international home sales. This highlights the region’s growing appeal, particularly in areas with high tourist activity, which continue to draw international interest.
On a provincial level, Murcia remains among the top eight provinces in Spain for foreign property purchases, with international buyers making up 23.58% of the market. This places it alongside other Mediterranean and island areas where tourism significantly influences the local property market.
Leading the charge in foreign home purchases are provinces like Alicante, where foreigners account for an impressive 43.52% of sales, and Málaga, with 30.81%. These figures illustrate the ongoing allure of Spain’s coastal regions, renowned for their tourism and high quality of life. Murcia’s substantial 23.58% share confirms its standing as a prime destination for international buyers, bolstering its reputation within the national real estate landscape.
