Parcent and Llíber: Putting the 'you' in 'commUnity'

Inflation still high, Covid making a come-back, war in the Middle East... but perhaps the night isn’t as dark as it seems. There is a small group of people, some of them probably not too far from where you are, content not with just helping out their local community but staying busy creating a template for expat intra-community relations.

A couple of weeks ago, David Brock, the President of an expat home owner association (HOA) in the Alicante village of Parcent contacted me in my role as expat Commissioner and ex-municipal technician. David was attempting to kickstart the village’s attempts to legalise their properties built on rural land. As you may already know, that wheel has already been invented in the form of the MIT licences, or Territorial Impact Minimisation licences to give them their full name.

As we have also recently reported, thanks to the help of the HOA in Llíber and the efforts of the local council there we have made real progress in resolving a problem which had remained unresolved for more than three decades. In fact we already have a firm date, January 30, 2024, confirmed to me by the mayor of Llíber, José Juan Reus Reus, for the MIT licenses to be issued.

Now, the two Presidents of the two HOAs, Adrian Hobbs in Llíber and David Brock in Parcent, are collaborating in order apply those lessons learned in the process of legalisation so that the process in Parcent goes as smoothly as possible.

This newspaper, and me personally, would like to congratulate both associations, and their Presidents in particular. They can count on my support, which means I will be calling the mayor of Parcent this week to offer any assistance they might need. We are also in the process of organising a Town Hall meeting in Parcent, as we did in Llíber, in which we will answer any and all questions.
