Rainclouds and thunderstorms bring cooler weather to Andalucía this week, with autumn finally making itself felt as we enter into the back end of October.
The dark clouds and rain sweep int from the west across the Atlantic starting on Monday October 16, with showers in the province of Huelva near the border with Portugal while the eastern half of Andalucía, including the Costa del Sol and Almería, enjoy more sunshine.

On Tuesday October 17, the rain spreads slowly eastward, covering Seville, Córdoba and Cádiz, including Gibraltar. Granada’s Sierra Nevada mountains will also get rain, the famous Spanish ski range having been the coldest place in the whole country in recent days and reaching temperatures approaching 0ºC.

The provinces of Almería and Jaén will also escape the rain on Wednesday October 18, but Málaga will get a little wet. It should dry out somewhat all over the region come Wednesday afternoon, though.

However, this is just a calm before the storm as the real downpours begin on Thursday 19. Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts heavy rainfall and dark clouds across the whole of Andalucía, and indeed the whole of mainland Spain on Thursday.

Friday October 20 and the weekend bring more showers, especially heavy in Jaén where there will be dramatic electrical storms. Almería will be the first to dry out on Saturday October 21, and eventually the rain will recede back westward by Sunday evening.
By that point, though, the temperatures will have fallen and both the daytime maximums the night-time minimums we were used to will have plummeted by 10ºC and the 30-degree days will be a thing of the past.
Time to dig out the jumpers, finally!
