Several municipalities in the Murcia Region are on alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms
After basking in glorious spring-like sunshine this May bank holiday weekend the rain makes an unwelcome return to the Region of Murcia this week, and the municipalities of Murcia, Valle del Guadalentín, Lorca and Águilas are in for a particularly bad start on Monday, with yellow weather alerts in place for storms between 12 noon and 8pm.
Monday May 2
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has forecast abundant rain for Monday which will be stronger in coastal areas and could even be accompanied by thunderstorms and hail showers. The temperatures will drop significantly compared to Sunday, with the most noticeable decreases predicted in the Northwest and inland areas of the Region.

Caravaca de la Cruz: 22ºC max; 10ºC min
Cartagena: 21ºC; 1 ºC
Lorca: 24ºC; 12ºC
Murcia: 23ºC; 13ºC
Yecla: 22ºC; 9ºC
Tuesday May 3
There are no weather warnings in place for Tuesday, but the day will once again dawn cloudy and remain overcast for the most part. Temperatures will continue to fall and widespread showers will persist.

Cartagena: 20ºC; 14ºC
Lorca: 22ºC; 10ºC
Murcia: 23ºC; 12ºC
Yecla: 19ºC; 9ºC
Wednesday May 4
Another cloudy start to the day with widespread showers occasionally accompanied by storms, which will be more persistent along the coast. Day-time temperatures will continue to drop, although night-time temperatures will remain stable. Strong northeasterly winds will blow in the Campo de Cartagena.

Cartagena: 19ºC; 15ºC
Lorca: 18ºC; 13ºC
Murcia: 18ºC; 13ºC
Yecla: 16ºC; 10ºC
Thursday May 5
The rain will begin to ease off on Thursday although weak showers haven’t been ruled out early in the morning. The day will be generally cloudy and although the minimum temperatures will remain the same, the thermometers will once again begin to rise during the day.
