San Pedro del Pinatar emergency teams gear up in dry suits for future flash floods
The new equipment will help San Pedro emergency crews work more safely in difficult conditions during flooding

Emergency crews in San Pedro del Pinatar have been given new specialist equipment to help them deal with flooding and flash floods.
The Department of Emergencies and Civil Protection has purchased six sets of equipment, each designed for use by an individual emergency technician during rescue and operational work in flood conditions.
The new kit includes waterproof dry suits designed to keep rescuers protected while working in difficult conditions. The suits are breathable and include a long-lasting water-repellent treatment, as well as reinforced sections around the knees and elbows.
They also have reflective material to make emergency workers easier to see during rescue operations.
The technicians have also been equipped with protective gloves and whitewater rescue vests with high buoyancy. The vests are designed to provide protection while still allowing rescuers to move freely when working in fast-flowing water.
Before using the new equipment during an emergency, the team has been putting it through its paces during training.
An initial training session was held at the Virgen del Carmen swimming pool at the municipal sports centre, allowing the emergency technicians to practise using the equipment in water and become familiar with how it works.
The new equipment is intended to improve the town's response to torrential rain and flooding, allowing emergency workers to operate more safely when conditions become dangerous.
The council said preparation is particularly important as episodes of intense rainfall and flooding are becoming increasingly frequent, making it essential for emergency teams to have the right equipment and training in place before the next major storm arrives.
