San Pedro, San Javier and Los Alcazares will have bus connections to the airport
ARCHIVED ARTICLE There will be a bus line between the Mar Menor towns and Corvera airport, but no date has been set yet
This is included in concession number 9, which forms part of the second phase of the development of the new interurban public transport system in the
Region of Murcia.
Airport buses in Murcia were removed during lockdown, but now travellers who use the airport – or who wish to – have been asking for such a measure to reinstate the service since the easing of travel restrictions.
As well as a projected 3,285 bus journeys per year from these towns to Murcia’s Corvera airport, there will also be a more direct route between Murcia city and
La Unión and
Torre Pacheco, as well as
Los Urrutias, Dolores de Pacheco, Roldán and Balsicas.
In addition, in summer, a direct service will be established between Los Alcázares and Murcia city.
The general director of Mobility and Coasts in the Region of Murcia, Marina Munuera, presented these new services to the representatives of these municipalities this Friday, stating that it is expected to benefit more than 300,000 people on the coast of the Mar Menor.
Munuera recalled that in 2017 the Community drew up the Transport Master Plan which, following an extensive process of participation and dialogue with all stakeholders (municipalities, users and companies), proposes a total transformation of the transport model known as Movibus.
The first phase of Movibus started last December with the new regional services for the metropolitan areas of Murcia and Cartagena, which have new services that have substantially improved the connection with the hospital centres and commercial areas, as well as Corvera airport since this June.
“Since the end of last year, four new lines have been in operation linking San Pedro del Pinatar, San Javier, Los Alcázares, Torre Pacheco, Balsicas,
Roldán, Pozo Aledo, Lo Pagán and Santiago de la Ribera with Los Arcos Hospital,” said Munuera, who also highlighted the new connection established by Movibus between El Mirador and San Javier, San Pedro del Pinatar and the Dos Mares shopping centre.
As these are just the preliminary plans, it is not yet known when the airport bus service and the new intercity bus lines will begin.
