From mid-June to September the iconic castle in Alicante will host cultural and leisure activities for all the family
Alicante's Santa Bárbara Castle is celebrating a record-breaking first half of 2022 with a whopping 290,000 visitors having already toured the impressive fortress and surroundings this year.
In addition to Spanish visitors, the vast majority travelled from the UK, Poland, Norway and Germany, and 65% were first timers keen to find out more about the historic castle and take in the spectacular views.
Eager to build on this success, Alicante City & Beach Tourist Board and Esatur, the company awarded the contract for the tourist promotion of the castle, have unveiled the summer programme and announced that from June 17 until September 4, opening hours will be extended from 10am to 11pm.
Pirate Weekend
July 15, 16 and 17: Over the three days a gastronomic area will be set up with exhibitions and pirate props. Musicians and actors will recreate scenes and there will be a pirate market and craft stalls, as well as games and attractions for children. The activities are all free of charge.
Night visits
Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from June 23 to September 11, 9pm: These dramatised night-time visits will be led by two actors accompanied by a guide.
Guided tours
Monday to Sunday, 10.30am and 8pm: Guided tours of the castle in English.
Music
Every weekend until mid-September, 9.30pm: Range of musical performances with free entry.
July 3, 9 and 30 and August 20: Performance by pop-rock and jazz band Lemon Three.
July 23: Concert by the percussion group Bloco Escuela.
August 6: The band Numen will take to the castle stage.
August 13: Agustic Band will perform classic jazz and blues tunes.
September 3, 8.30pm: Kids Rock show in the format of a TV quiz show for all the family. Free admission.
Seotember 10: Soloist Crooner will perform a varied repertoire of jazz, bolero, swing, foxtrot and disco.
Gastronomic experiences
Every Thursday to Sunday from July 1, 7pm to 9.45pm: Beer and wine tasting sessions from 12 euros.
