Easter Week in Balsicas

Balsicas first began to celebrate Semana Santa 40 years ago, when the Santísima Virgen Dolorosa was taken out in the streets of the town. 15 years later she was joined by the figure of Cristo del Consuelo, and Semana Santa in Balsicas began in earnest.
There are now eight such associations in the town, the last of which, “La Verónica”, was founded in 2007, and they all take part in processions on Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
 
Parades leave from the Iglesia Parroquial de Balsicas, the Church in the heart of Balsicas, in Plaza Vizconde de Ros.

The Cofradía of Jesús Nazareno has been parading since 2001 on Holy Friday.
The Cofradía of Cristo del Consuelo was founded in 1987 and within 2 years had purchased it´s first paso, and parades on Viernes Santo and on Resurrection Sunday.
The Cofradía de la Piedad comprises 50 Nazarenos, who wear black tunics.
The Cofradía del Santo Sepulcro paraded for the first time in 1989 with 30 Nazarenos with purple tunics and black capirotes. Today the Cofradía has 130 members. The Cofradía of San Juan have been parading snce 1998 on Viernes Santo and Resurrection Sunday, wearing a white tunic and red cap.

Balsicas, Semana Santa Parades:

Viernes de Dolores, at 8.30pm, Vía Crucis.

Palm Sunday. 11.30am Mass followed by procession of the palms, which begins in the park with the participation of children dressed in Hebrew costume and the incorporation of a throne with the image of Jesus and the donkey. There is also a Vía Crucis and the procession transferring the image of Cristo del Consuelo.

Holy Tuesday
9pm Transfer of the image of Cristo del Consuelo to the headquarters of the cofradías.

Good Friday at 9pm, Procession of el santo Entierro ( the burial of Christ)

Holy Saturday, From 11pm, midnight vigil

Resurrection Sunday, ( Easter Day) at 11am.Procession of the resurrection
