Among the most popular tapas in the Region of Murcia is the emblematic “marinera”, which consists of a generous portion of Russian salad balanced on a “rosquilla” breadstick and topped with an anchovy, and in celebration of this delicacy the 4th annual Marinera tapas competition is being held throughout the Region between mid-September and mid-October.

Competing in two categories are as many as 180 bars throughout Murcia, from Águilas in the south-west to Yecla in the north, and they are vying for the top prize of 1,000 euros in 2 categories: one for the best traditional marinera and one for the best innovative marinera.
