ARCHIVED ARTICLE The second weekend of the Feria del Mar Menor is being held in various localities within the municipality of Cartagena
During the second of four weekends of the inaugural early autumn Feria del Mar Menor the events shift to the municipality of Cartagena.
Over the course of the weekends between September 23 and October 16 a variety of events including water sports, underwater photography, guided tours, concerts, exhibitions, walking and cycling routes, tapas routes, workshops, arts and crafts and show cooking are being held first in San Javier, then in Cartagena, Los Alcázares and San Pedro del Pinatar.
The events in Cartagena between September 30 and October 2 include the following (all are free of charge unless otherwise stated):
Friday September 30
17.30 and 19.00: Tours of the esparto grass and bolillo weaving museum, complete with demonstration, at the Centro Cívico in El Algar.
18.00 and 19.00: Tours of the Teatro Circo Apolo museum in El Algar (prior registration and further details here).
19.00: Entre Bolos y Trovos, music and games at the Centro Cívico in El Algar.
20.00: Concert by Humberto Ríos and Pablo Rodríguez at the Mirador Sur Mar Menor (outside the supermarket in Playa Honda).
Saturday October 1
8.30: Mar Menor cycling tour beginning at the Cabaña de Saura in El Algar (prior registration and further details here).
8.30: The lighthouse of Cabo de Palos opens to visitors, 30-minute visits until 12.30 (prior booking and further information here). Price 5 euros.
9.00: Walking tour from Los Chaparros to Cala Arturo and Cala Magra in the Regional Park of Calblanque (prior registration and further details here).
9.30: Walking tour of the old salt flats of Marchamalo at the southern end of the Mar Menor (prior registration and further details here).
10.00 and 18.00: Tours of the esparto grass and bolillo weaving museum, complete with demonstration, at the Centro Cívico in El Algar.
11.00: Workshop of traditional fishing techniques at Playa Honda. Registration and further details here.
17.00 to 22.30: Traditions Fair at the sports centre in Calle Ramos Carratalá (Los Urrutias). The event features arts and crafts, traditional gastronomy, workshops, games and numerous stalls as well as live music from the Cuadrilla de Arrejuntaos, Muleres con Raíz and NUNATAK.
Sunday October 2
9.30: Walking tour from the Rambla del Picharro to the old mining centre at Mina las Matildes (prior registration and further details here).
10.00: Coach tour of the windmills of the Mar Menor (prior registration and further details here).
10.30: Lateen sailboat exhibition at the Club Náutico in Los Nietos.
11.00 and 12.00: Tours of the Teatro Circo Apolo museum in El Algar (prior registration and further details here).
12.30: Performance by the dance group Mardance at the Local Social in Los Urrutias.
13.00: Concert by Fabio Furia at the Mirador Sur Menor in Playa Honda.
17.00: Unveiling of a graffiti mural by artist Kraser, with performances by Hoonine and Carmesí, in Calle del Depósito (Cabo de Palos).
