Seven Murcia restaurants receive prestigious Repsol Summer Soletes awards
The Region of Murcia has been celebrated for its traditional cuisine and unbeatable locations
The Repsol Guide has once again scoured the country to find some of Spain’s best restaurants to include in its Summer Soletes 2023 list. According to the experts themselves, the Soletes acknowledge those “hidden gems” we’d all recommend visitors try when they come to our town and cover everything from breakfast cafés and chilled lounges to hamburger bars and even ice-cream parlours.
“Everyone fits here,” Repsol said, “as long as they are honest and do it well.”
This year, no fewer than seven Region of Murcia eateries made the grade and we have the run-down right here:
1. Alviento, Cartagena
Situated in the enviable location of the Port of Cartagena with unbeatable views, Alviento is celebrated this summer for its unique menu. Here, diners can try salmorejo (a traditional cold soup) with tomato confit or fideuá, which is a seafood dish not unsimilar to paella. Afterwards, why not enjoy a cool drink on the rooftop terrace with refreshing sea breezes?
2. El Líos, Lorca
According to Repsol, El Líos is the perfect beach bar to seek out on holiday for a relaxing drink or a bite to eat. The establishment is famous for its rock octopus and is situated in the picturesque Puntas de Calnegre.
3. Carmen Playa, San Javier
The Galician veal nugget with foie and quince is one of the signature dishes at Carmen Playa restaurant, whose bustling and lively terrace is located less than five minutes from Barnuevo beach in Santiago de la Ribera.
4. Bar Yemanjá, Cabo de Palos
Located alongside the iconic marina, Yemanjá has a Bohemian Caribbean and South American feel, a comfortable hideaway in which to relax and watch the world go by.
5. Casa Cegarra, La Unión
Nestled in the historic mining town of Portman Bay, Casa Cegarra is one of the most famous restaurants on the Cartagena coast for serving caldero de pescado, an intensely rich rice and fish dish.
6. Rincón de Ignacio, Murcia
The Rincón de Ignacio de Murcia uses smoke from vine shoots to flavour its wide variety of rice dishes, but the restaurant also offers several different set menus.
7. El Mesoncico, Cehegín
This small bar is big on character and diners can watch all of their food being prepared in the fully open kitchen. Here, an abundance of fresh produce takes centre stage.
Summer Soletes 2023 in the rest of Spain
This year, a total of 314 establishments across the country were honoured by Repsol, with Andalucia racking up a whopping 63 new awards, the Valencian Community 31 and Catalonia, 30.
“We are very satisfied with the new selection of more than 300 places with their own history, which are added to the more than 3,000 ‘Soletes’ and which can now be found in the new app that we have just launched. A very efficient and comfortable with which to save time on vacation and guarantee the right choice,” explained the director of Guía Repsol, María Ritter.
The 314 new awards have been allocated as follows: Aragón 14; Canary Islands 18; Cantabria 6; Castilla La Mancha 15; Castilla y León 24; Catalonia 30; Madrid 20; Navarra 3; Community of Valencia 31; Basque Country 19; Extremadura 8; Galicia 22; Balearic Islands 17; La Rioja 3; Asturias 14; Region of Murcia 7.

Nestled in the heart of the iconic Cartagena port, Yemanjá specialises in modern tapas with a twist
Named after the Brazilian goddess of the sea, Café bar Yemanjá is located in the port of Cabo de Palos, a lively enclave with plenty of atmosphere and packed full of leisure activities, diving schools and shops.
The lifelong dream of Magdalena, who is originally from Argentina, the bar aims to offer a refuge from the hustle and bustle of the marina, a relaxing hideaway where customers can try a range of tasty tapas and a wide variety of vegetarian and vegan delicacies.
During the summer, Café bar Yemanjá is a vibrant hub of activity, with great music, and a chilled, mixed clientele of all nationalities.
As Magdalena herself says, “everyone has a place in Yemanjá”.
