Southern Spain heats up: Weekend weather forecast May 2-5
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
Temperatures will exceed 30ºC in many parts of Spain this weekend
Minimum and maximum temperatures on Sunday
After a miserable couple of weeks in much of Spain, especially the north and west of mainland Spain, the weather is expected to pick up dramatically this coming weekend thanks to the arrival from North Africa of a balmy subtropical front. This change will be short-lived as it will be pushed eastwards by an Atlantic DANA storm in a few days, but in the meantime the increase in temperatures will be substantial, especially in the Mediterranean.
Over the weekend, the mercury will climb into the low- to mid-30s in large parts of southern Spain, bringing temperatures that are more typical right at the end of the month of May.
Thursday May 2
The instability will persist in the north of Spain throughout Thursday but things should settle down in the rest of the country. Very clear skies will give way to increasing cloudiness during the late afternoon everywhere but the southeast, and this could lead to some scattered showers along the Atlantic coast.
Following a fairly cool week, the temperatures will begin to rise, especially inland, although Thursday night will feel a little more chilly in the south.
Friday May 3
A new front will result in heavy rain in large parts of northern Spain on Friday but it should be dry elsewhere. In most of the country, slightly cloudy skies will become more overcast later in the day.
Daytime temperatures will continue to climb, nudging into the 20s in most areas and the evening should also be much warmer than previous days, especially in Andalucía and in the north and northwest of the country.
Saturday May 4
Proper summery temperatures will arrive on Saturday, with the mercury increasing across the board. The real heat will be felt in southern Spain, with highs of 31ºC forecast in the Valencian Community.
Despite rising temperatures, a front will continue to affect Spain on Saturday, leaving overcast skies and rain in the north and intervals of high clouds in other parts.
Sunday May 5
Spain is expected to remain exposed to the Atlantic front on Sunday with fronts entering from the northwest and leaving cloudy or overcast skies in most of the northwest. In the rest of the country and in the Balearic Islands, slightly cloudy skies or cloudy intervals will predominate.
There won’t be any major changes temperature-wise, although the mercury could drop by a degree of two along the northern Mediterranean coast. On the other hand, Murcia is tipped to reach 32ºC at the height of the day.
