Hospital admissions are also on the rise while ICU pressure remains stable in Spain
The cumulative incidence rate continues its upward trend in Spain and stands at 67.07 cases per 100,000 inhabitants on Thursday November 11. This is a rise of more than 4 points in the past 24 hours and keeps the country firmly in the medium-risk category while all of Europe battles to avoid a sixth wave of coronavirus.
Covid infections
The Ministry of Health has reported 4,286 new infections, 2,487 of which were diagnosed in the last 24 hours. These figures are higher than those recorded on the same day last week, when 3,291 positives were notified, and brings the total number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 5,042,803.
In the past two weeks, a total of 31,825 positives have been registered.
Risk groups
By autonomous communities, ten regions in Spain are at medium risk based on their 14-day incidence, and among them, three even exceed 100 cases per 100,000 inhabitants: Aragon, Navarra and the Basque Country.
At the opposite end of the scale, only Ceuta remains in the new normal range with a rate lower than 25.
On Thursday the cumulative incidence rate in the Valencian Community was 75.28 cases, in Murcia it was 56.51 while Andalucía had reached 39.49.
By age group, all populations fall within medium risk, except for those aged between 12 and 19 years old, who are still at low risk. It is among those under 12 – who are not eligible to receive the Covid vaccine – where the cumulative incidence is highest (86.63).
Hospitalisations
In the last 24 hours, the number of people hospitalised with Covid has also increased, reaching 1,933 patients, 30 more than the previous day. On the other hand, the number of people admitted to Intensive Care Units has fallen to 395, eight fewer than on Wednesday.
Fatalities
The Ministry has reported a further 30 deaths in the last 24 hours compared with 15 on the same day last week. As many as 87,647 people have now lost their lives to Covid while in the last week alone, 170 people in Spain have died.
Positivity rate
Between November 1 and 7, the autonomous communities carried out 525,844 PCR and antigen tests resulting in a 3.41% positivity rate, still below the WHO’s barrier of 5%.
Outbreaks
According to the National Institute of Statistics (INE), coronavirus dealt a mortal blow to nursing homes in 2020, resulting in 493,776 Covid-related deaths – a 17.9% increase on the previous year. This is the highest number of annual deaths in Spain since 1980.
Vaccination data
As of Thursday, 37,431,385 people, representing 88.9% of the population have been double jabbed while 38,130,715 people, or 90.5%, have received at least one dose of the vaccination.
