Spain's fourth heatwave brings another weekend of extreme heat: Andalucía weekend weather July 30-August 2

The heatwave will keep inland Andalucía above 40°C over the next few days, while coastal areas continue to escape the worst of the heat

Spain's fourth heatwave of the summer is on the way to much of Andalucía over the next few days, with inland areas once again seeing temperatures climb above 40°C. While the coast will remain noticeably cooler, inland the heat will be much more intense.

The forecast also includes the chance of isolated afternoon thunderstorms over the eastern mountain ranges, while a little Saharan dust is expected to linger across southern parts of the region. Here's a day-by-day look at what you can expect.

Thursday July 30

The end of the week gets off to another hot start across Andalucía, particularly inland. Córdoba and Granada are both forecast to reach 41°C, while Jaén climbs to 40°C and Seville to 39°C. Along the coast, temperatures will be much more comfortable, with highs of 31°C expected in Almería and Málaga, 28°C in Cádiz and 34°C in Huelva. A little Saharan dust is possible in the south of the region, while isolated afternoon thunderstorms can't be ruled out over the eastern mountain ranges. 

Levante winds will continue through the Strait of Gibraltar.

Friday July 31

Friday brings another day of intense inland heat, with 42°C expected in Córdoba and 41°C in Granada. Jaén is forecast to reach 40°C, while Seville remains around 39°C. Coastal temperatures will change very little, with 30°C in Almería, 31°C in Málaga and 29°C in Cádiz. Sunshine will dominate, although some cloud and mist are possible along parts of the Mediterranean coast early in the day. There's also a slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms over the eastern mountains.

Saturday August 1

The heat builds even further on Saturday, with 43°C forecast in Córdoba and 42°C in Seville. Jaén is expected to reach 41°C, while Granada stays close behind at 40°C. Even Huelva is forecast to hit 40°C. Coastal areas remain considerably cooler, with 33°C in Málaga and 31°C in Cádiz and Almería. Once again, there's a slight chance of isolated afternoon thunderstorms developing over the eastern mountains.

Sunday August 2

Sunday brings a little relief to some inland areas, although it will remain very hot. Córdoba is expected to reach 40°C, while Seville climbs to 39°C and both Granada and Jaén are forecast to hit 38°C. Málaga, however, warms up significantly to 37°C, making it one of the hottest coastal cities in the region, while Cádiz cools to around 27°C. Sunshine will continue, with only a slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms over the eastern mountains.

With Spain's heatwave streak continuing, take extra care if you're spending time outdoors, particularly inland where temperatures are expected to stay above 40°C for much of the forecast. If you can, make the most of the cooler mornings, keep plenty of water with you and avoid the strongest sunshine during the hottest part of the afternoon.

Although the forecast suggests coastal areas will avoid the worst of the heat over the next few days, it's always worth keeping an eye on the latest updates from Aemet and local authorities, as weather warnings and forecasts can change.
