Spring temperatures in southern Spain: Weather forecast December 16-19
The coming week will be largely settled, dry and mild across Spain
Average temperatures expected on Wednesday
Spain is in for yet another very mixed week weather-wise as the country experiences a tug-of-war between high and low pressure systems.
The start of the week will see high-pressure zones dominating much of the country, resulting in stable, warm days and rather chilly nights. However, from Thursday onwards, the weather will take a wintery turn with the arrival of polar air masses.
Moreover, as the week goes on, the mercury will climb to decidedly spring-like temperatures in the south of the country.
Monday December 16
Monday will be very settled in most of the country, although higher cloud cover is forecast in the southeast and around the Strait, where some scattered showers could occur.
The temperatures are playing a game of two halves again: during the day, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) expects the mercury to rise in the Canary Islands and most of northern Spain but the thermometers will drop in much of the southeast.
Strong northerly winds have prompted an orange weather alert in Andalucía.
Tuesday December 17
Periods of very strong gusts will create dangerous sea conditions in parts of Andalucía and Galicia on Tuesday but for the most part, the weather should remain stable across the country. Only the approach of a front from the Atlantic will leave more cloudiness and showers in western Galicia, which could end up affecting other points in the far west of the country or western Cantabria.
The south will experience an overcast start to the day as well, but this will clear quite early.
Daytime temperatures should rise across the board, topping out in the high-teens in places like Alicante and Murcia.
Wednesday December 18
Mostly clear, bright skies are forecast for Wednesday. However, that Atlantic front will arrive in earnest in the northwest, where it will be overcast and wet all day.
Temperatures will tend to fall in the Canary Islands and rise in mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands, especially in Mediterranean areas where the mercury will shoot up into the 20s.
No weather alerts have been issued for December 18.
Thursday December 19
The weather on Thursday will be marked by the passage of the Atlantic front that will leave abundant cloudiness and rain in most of the country, particularly along the western coasts.
Daytime temperatures will continue to climb in southern Spain, reaching a spring-like 25ºC or 26ºC in parts of Murcia and Alicante.
No weather alerts have been issued for December 19.
