More rain and cold this week: Spain weather forecast April 29-May 2
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
The cold snap will persist throughout Spain and widespread rain is forecast over the coming days
Weather outlook for Wednesday May 1
The rain and plummeting temperatures that landed in Spain over the weekend are set to continue for the next few days, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), which forecasts that the run-up to May will be “colder than normal for the season” throughout the country. It will also be much wetter than usual, particularly in the west, the northeast and the Balearic Islands.
But there is some good news, and as the days go by the temperatures will slowly start to increase and the heaviest of the rain should dry off as we approach the weekend.
Monday April 29 will start off very wet in most places, with the worst of the showers expected in the Valencian Community, Aragón and Catalonia, although the rain could extend as far south as Murcia and Andalucía.
We can expect similar temperatures to Sunday, and very few areas will see the thermometers rise much above 20ºC.
A cold front associated with another storm will enter the country through Galicia early on Tuesday April 30, leaving plenty of rainfall in its wake as it passes through Asturias, Castilla y León and western Andalucía. This front will also bring strong winds from the southwest so although it will be a wet day, the temperatures should start to increase a little.
The front should begin to weaken on Wednesday May 1 but not before it reaches the Mediterranean, where heavy rain is forecast. The core of the storm will carry a pocket of cold air through the northwest of the country, so it will also be very wet in Galicia, Asturias and Castilla y León.
Daytime temperatures will drop again across the board, although the mercury could creep into the low 20s in parts of Alicante and Andalucía.
The country will continue under the influence of an Atlantic front on Thursday May 2 but the weather will stabilise considerably. Weak, scattered showers are expected in eastern Spain early on and there could be some isolated storms in the south during the afternoon.
Temperatures will fall in the southeast of the country and the Balearic Islands but rise slightly in the northwest.
