From Thursday October 20, storm Armand’s approach will generate fronts that will bring heavy rain to the northwest of the country initially, although this precipitation is likely to spread to other areas of the western and central Spain. For the time being, those living along the Mediterranean coast can continue to enjoy relatively fine weather and warm temperatures.
After months of drought, senior meteorologist at Aemet Juan Jesús González Alemán has incredibly predicted that Spain will become the wettest region in Europe by the end of the week, and thirteen communities have been placed on either yellow or orange level alert for torrential rain on Thursday.
The storm will begin moving north on Friday October 21, covering much of the Atlantic slope in heavy cloud and bringing strong or persistent rains to central Spain and western Andalucia, which is on alert in the early morning. It will also be largely overcast along most of the Mediterranean coast, with possible fog and mist early on.
As has been the case all week, daytime temperatures will rise slightly in the southeast, reaching 33ºC in Murcia, while dropping elsewhere.
Very little change is forecast for Saturday October 22 and only Galicia remains on yellow alert for storms. Even so, occasional heavy showers can’t be ruled out in Andalucia and central Spain, and although there’s no rain expected in the south or along the eastern coast, the day will be largely overcast with high clouds.
Daytime temperatures will see an almost general rise with the exception of the Med area and the Canary Islands, where the mercury will dip slightly. The nights will be a little cooler also, although the thermometers will still hit an uncomfortable 19ºC in Alicante and Malaga.
Looking ahead to Sunday October 23 and the temperatures remain virtually unchanged, with no weather alerts currently in place. There is still rain forecast in the north that will likely spread in the afternoon but once again, the extreme south should escape it. Another cloudy day is on the cards, clearing to brighter skies along the Mediterranean coast in the afternoon.
