Storm Nelson moves away and the hot weather returns: Spain forecast April 1-7
ARCHIVED ARTICLE -
Lovely spring temperatures are due to return to Spain this week as the rain and winds die down
This coming week in Spain, when many British holidaymakers will be taking advantage of the UK school Easter holidays to come and soak up a bit of sun and Spanish culture, mainly warm temperatures are expected after the wet and windy Semana Santa we have just had and it will dry out except for in the northwest of mainland Spain, around Galicia.
This Monday April 1 in the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, three autonomous communities are still under a yellow weather warning for wind and high waves. Girona, Lugo, A Coruña and Asturias can expect southwesterly with gusts of 50 to 60 kmh (force 7) and waves of 2 to 3 metres high.
In the rest of mainland Spain, there will also be cloudy intervals on Monday and some weak and scattered precipitation is not ruled out, although the situation will change from Tuesday onwards, according to Meteored.
Storm Nelson will begin to subside, and the arrival of a subtropical ridge will make the weather much more stable, especially around the Mediterranean coast, where Murcia, Alicante, Valencia and Barcelona can expect sunny weather conditions to prevail over the rest of the week.
However, meteorological instability will continue to enter from the Atlantic side of Spain, so the week will continue to be very wet in the northwest of the peninsula, in Galicia, Asturias and parts of Castilla y León.
There will be an abrupt and noticeable change in temperatures this week, according to Meteored. From Tuesday April 2, maximum temperatures will rise in most of the country, except in the Cantabrian Sea, the extreme southwest of the peninsula, the entire Levante coast and the Canary Islands, where they will remain unchanged.
On Wednesday April 3, cloudiness will still be persistent on the Atlantic slope and there will be precipitation in the west of Galicia, the Cantabrian area and the Pyrenees. Cloudy intervals are also expected in the Canary Islands, while in the rest of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands the skies will be clear, according to State Meteorological Agnecy (Aemet).
From Thursday onwards, the situation will continue to be stable, warm and sunny overall, with rising temperatures, although it is not ruled out that an inactive Atlantic front could reach the mainland, bringing more rain to the extreme northwest.
For the most part, though, spring-like weather will set in from mid-week onwards, when the temperature could exceed 20°C across the board and values of 24 to 26°C could be recorded in points in the south, east, southeast, Ebro valley and eastern Cantabrian Sea.
Indeed, a mass of warm air from North Africa could bring an especially warm Friday and Saturday, with temperatures even tipping above touching 30ºC on the south coast and in the Mediterranean.
